{"id":156822,"date":"2026-01-30T18:25:28","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T18:25:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/156822\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T18:25:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T18:25:28","slug":"will-the-sacramento-kings-move-ellis-sabonis-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/156822\/","title":{"rendered":"Will the Sacramento Kings move Ellis &#038; Sabonis this week?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are less than one week away from the NBA trade deadline (Thursday at 12 pm PT), meaning the time has come for the Sacramento Kings to make some moves.<\/p>\n<p>While players on large contracts like Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan are at the forefront of the Kings\u2019 to-do list when it comes to restructuring this roster, Keon Ellis\u2019 name continues to be popular in trade talks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/author\/sam-amick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Athletic\u2018s Sam Amick<\/a> joined The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross to share his thoughts on where things stand for Ellis, whose future in Sacramento appears to be coming to an end in the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>While the Kings have yet to move the three-and-D guard, Amick says Ellis has an established market as teams begin to submit offers before Thursday\u2019s deadline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not shocked, but I am a little surprised that nothing\u2019s actually gone down there yet,\u201d Amick said of Ellis. \u201cI think and assume \u2014 and I\u2019ve probably heard \u2014 that the market is really good.<\/p>\n<p><img data-perfmatters-preload=\"\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60362\" class=\" wp-image-60362\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GettyImages-2243507731-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 26: Keon Ellis #23 of the Sacramento Kings dunks the ball against the Los Angeles Lakers during the first quarter at Golden 1 Center on October 26, 2025 in Sacramento, California. And the Kings have made it clear they\u2019re looking for a first-round pick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"192\" data-end=\"415\">Ellis, who was signed by the Sacramento Kings as an undrafted free agent in 2022, has become a respectable shooter (41.4% from 3-point range during his career) and a lockdown defender (fifth among all NBA players in steals last season).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"192\" data-end=\"415\">Although a trade hasn\u2019t happened yet, Amick says the next five to six days could change how interested teams approach Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"663\">\u201cI think the fact that there\u2019s still a lot of time before the deadline matters,\u201d Amick said. \u201cTeams aren\u2019t really incentivized to put their best offer on the table unless they\u2019re trying to win games right now and want that guy immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"663\">If the Sacramento Kings are going to part with Ellis, who is on an expiring $2.3 million contract and is extension-eligible later next week, they have made it clear they want a first-round pick in return\u2013but that may be too steep an ask for teams.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"665\" data-end=\"893\">\u201cI\u2019m curious to see if they ultimately get that first,\u201d Amick said. \u201cYou can have a lot of interest, but I\u2019ve run into some teams that are pausing on the idea. It goes back to the slightly strange way the Kings have used their roster on the floor.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"665\" data-end=\"893\">\u201cTeams are asking, \u2018Okay, we\u2019re giving up a first for a guy who\u2019s not really playing that much? That\u2019s hard for some teams to rationalize. So again, there\u2019s lots of interest for sure.
