FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Cassidy Gonzalez has been sentenced to 19 years and 4 months to life in prison for the murder of Jade Dreith. It marks Fresno County’s first fentanyl murder conviction and sentencing.<\/p>\n

The punishment comes nearly a year after her trial.<\/p>\n

In March 2025, a jury convicted Gonzalez of killing Dreith by knowingly selling her a deadly dose of fentanyl hours before she died.<\/p>\n

At trial, prosecutors presented their evidence for days, but the defense’s case lasted just four minutes and 41 seconds.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez later claimed her trial attorney was ineffective, which led to the sentencing delay while a court-ordered review was conducted of Gonzalez’s attorney. It found no such ineffectiveness.<\/p>\n

Friday’s sentencing included impassioned and at times tense comments from Dreith’s family, Gonzalez’s supporters, and the defendant herself.<\/p>\n
