{"id":157602,"date":"2026-01-31T04:17:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T04:17:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/157602\/"},"modified":"2026-01-31T04:17:06","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T04:17:06","slug":"planned-parenthood-reproductive-healthcare-could-receive-90-million-in-new-state-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/157602\/","title":{"rendered":"Planned Parenthood, reproductive healthcare could receive $90 million in new state funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>SACRAMENTO\u00a0\u2014\u00a0California lawmakers will consider bolstering funding for Planned Parenthood and other providers of reproductive health with a one-time infusion of $90 million, leaders of the state Legislature announced Friday. <\/p>\n<p>Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Hollister) and Senate President Monique Lim\u00f3n  (D-Goleta) said the money would give grants to providers that were  affected by recent federal cuts passed by President Trump and the Republican-led Congress that targeted abortion providers. The funding is included in a proposed bill being considered by state lawmakers. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump and his Republican enablers have waged an all-out assault on women \u2014 attacking abortion access, family-planning and reproductive health,\u201d Rivas said in a Friday statement. \u201cOutrage alone won\u2019t stop it. When Trump strips funding, California will continue to act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Republican-backed  \u201cOne Big Beautiful Bill Act,\u201d signed last year by Trump, prohibited federal Medicaid funding from going to Planned Parenthood. California and a coalition of other Democrat-led states <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/story\/2025-07-29\/california-other-states-sue-trump-administration-over-bill-defunding-planned-parenthood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">filed a lawsuit<\/a> against the Trump administration last year over the provision.<\/p>\n<p>More than 80% of the nearly 1.3 million annual patient visits to Planned Parenthood in California were previously reimbursed by Medi-Cal, the state\u2019s version of Medicaid, which provides healthcare coverage to low-income Americans.<\/p>\n<p>In his recent budget proposal, Gov. Gavin Newsom allotted $60 million for reproductive healthcare.
