OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. \u2013 An Oakland County<\/a> couple says they were out over $800 because they say Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan wouldn\u2019t refund their overpayment. <\/p>\n

The couple reached out to Local 4 to help publicize their story. <\/p>\n

Local 4 contacted the company and received the response below, indicating they plan to resolve the issue. <\/p>\n

\u201cAfter reviewing this member\u2019s grievance, we identified a one-time billing error as the cause of this issue. This is in the process of being resolved, and a reimbursement check will be issued and mailed to the member early next week. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this error,\u201d the statement said. <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how the Waterford<\/a> couple got here. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been able to talk to somebody to go through this, so that\u2019s why I\u2019m talking to you,\u201d Jim Matt, of Waterford, said. <\/p>\n

Matt and his wife have had Blue Cross Blue Shield for a number of years. In Dec. 2024, they paid off the year\u2019s policy and attempted to make a payment toward their 2025 plan. <\/p>\n

Then, Matt got a notice. It was the kind that makes your stomach drop. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey said, \u2018Hey, you need to pay for your plan.\u2019 I called and said, \u2018Wait a minute, I paid for it on December 10th.\u2019 And they are like, \u2018no, you didn\u2019t,\u2019\u201d Matt said. <\/p>\n

Turns out, he\u2019d accidentally made his payment to the 2024 plan, not the 2025 plan. <\/p>\n

Matt thought it\u2019d be an easy fix. He called the company again. <\/p>\n

They said they couldn\u2019t transfer the funds, so they developed a different plan. <\/p>\n

They would refund him by check, and he\u2019d agreed to be double-billed for January and February. <\/p>\n

On Jan. 6, 2025, they cut a check, and Matt got it in the mail. He went to deposit it, and things took a turn.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the 27th, they stopped payment on that check,\u201d Matt said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow much was that check for?\u201d Local 4\u2019s Kyla Russell asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cOne month premium, $830.09,\u201d Matt said. \u201cI was within $20 dollars of my account bouncing checks. It might be dinky money to them, but for me, it\u2019s a substantial amount.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt disputed the overcharge with Discover, and they credited the amount to him. <\/p>\n

He thought things were settled until summer rolled around. <\/p>\n

\u201cAfter paying normal premium payments for March, April, and May, I got a double bill for my July payment,\u201d Matt said. <\/p>\n

Matt filed a grievance with Blue Cross Blue Shield in August and waited 30 days without receiving any communication or confirmation, he says. <\/p>\n

He called again and didn\u2019t get anybody, so he sent an email. Then,j they called him. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe said, \u2018Oh yeah, your grievance was denied back in September.\u2019 I had never been informed about that,\u201d Matt said. <\/p>\n

By this time, it was nearly mid-October.<\/p>\n

\u201cI call back, no call back, they\u2019ve ghosted me,\u201d Matt said. <\/p>\n

\u201cFrustrating probably doesn\u2019t cut it, but explain to me how this has made you guys feel,\u201d Russell asked. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf I had to rate the company for their medical, but for their billing, and for their executives, my satisfaction is a one or a two out of ten,\u201d Matt said. <\/p>\n
