TAFT, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 A 44-year-old man from Taft, Billy Terry, is facing a long and challenging recovery after being allegedly set on fire by a woman last Thursday. <\/p>\n
Terry suffered severe burns over 70% of his body and has undergone multiple surgeries, including a second skin graft, at Memorial Burn Center. <\/p>\n
His father, Leo Terry, described the horrific scene, saying, “His skin just falling off his body, that’s how bad he was burning.”<\/p>\n
The incident occurred during a gathering by a campfire on the 700 block of K Street when the woman, who worked as a waitress at the family-owned Hungry Grizzly Sandwich Company, allegedly threw gasoline on Terry.<\/p>\n
Friends nearby attempted to help by patting him down and calling 911. <\/p>\n
One witness, who was awakened by the screams, said, “When I came out, he was lying right there, and he was burning, smoking.”<\/p>\n
Billy Terry’s family is now facing significant financial strain due to his extensive medical needs and lack of insurance. <\/p>\n
They are considering selling the restaurant, a decision Billy begged them not to make. <\/p>\n
