{"id":158790,"date":"2026-02-01T04:58:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T04:58:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/158790\/"},"modified":"2026-02-01T04:58:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T04:58:10","slug":"sources-cavs-trade-hunter-to-kings-for-schroder-ellis-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/158790\/","title":{"rendered":"Sources: Cavs trade Hunter to Kings for Schroder, Ellis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"ec79ad1f-e6d2-7762-a2db-7fe97d35126b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/cle\/cleveland-cavaliers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> are trading <a data-player-guid=\"bb7bc777-960c-1ff4-57b1-cba0c72c6ca3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4065732\/deandre-hunter\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">De&#8217;Andre Hunter<\/a> to the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"e266c4ea-9af3-1bd8-06fb-fd608fd30e26\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/sac\/sacramento-kings\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sacramento Kings<\/a> for <a data-player-guid=\"ed50e972-a95d-6b5c-3fcd-0d75616d1159\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3032979\/dennis-schroder\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dennis Schroder<\/a> and <a data-player-guid=\"25ed0186-6dfb-330f-a7b2-5895570fd56a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4702177\/keon-ellis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Keon Ellis<\/a>, sources told ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>The three-team deal includes the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"e588ccf1-ba03-ea43-c34c-9a9c8d1895ca\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/chi\/chicago-bulls\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Bulls<\/a> acquiring Kings forward <a data-player-guid=\"ec510d5f-3cb7-033b-ef46-6f3f331f0710\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3032978\/dario-saric\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dario Saric<\/a> and two future second-round picks, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>The Cavaliers turn Hunter&#8217;s salary slot into depth at point guard with Schroder and a top defender on the market with Ellis. The Cavaliers also save about $50 million in salary and luxury tax bills this season because of the transaction and drop their tax bill from $164 million to $120 million, according to ESPN&#8217;s Bobby Marks.<\/p>\n<p>Editor&#8217;s Picks<\/p>\n<p>2 Related<\/p>\n<p>This also positions Cleveland to get under the second apron next season. Ellis is on an expiring $2.3 million contract but is eligible to sign up to a 3-year, $52 million extension starting on Feb. 9. Despite being an apron team next year, Cleveland can re-sign Ellis and exceed the threshold.<\/p>\n<p>In Hunter, 28, the Kings receive an established &#8216;3-and-D&#8217; wing under contract through next season. Hunter has averaged 14 points and 4.2 rebounds. It also brings roster flexibility to the Kings, including space to convert two-way center <a data-player-guid=\"8996eb0c-2838-3125-b3f6-48816b254314\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4433174\/dylan-cardwell\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dylan Cardwell<\/a> to a standard NBA deal.<\/p>\n<p>Cardwell has been a revelation for the Kings as an undrafted rookie, averaging 4.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 19.8 minutes per game.<\/p>\n<p>Saric is on an expiring contract worth $5.4 million, which the Bulls will absorb and net future assets to consummate the trade. The Bulls are also waiving guard <a data-player-guid=\"9f154251-b367-bd8c-394a-ad9175f30518\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/3133635\/jevon-carter\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jevon Carter<\/a> to create space for Saric, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>The Cavs are sending the Bulls the 2027 second-round pick they own from the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"c4aceb39-0eb9-a30b-1120-9cb5b12b677a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/den\/denver-nuggets\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denver Nuggets<\/a>, according to Marks. The Kings are sending a 2029 second-round pick to the Bulls. It will be the least favorable of picks from the <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"4e096981-dc02-51d0-3dcd-2468fcc1e22d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/det\/detroit-pistons\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Detroit Pistons<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f59bbabc-eedb-9ad2-c5dd-9bcd9f450a2f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/mil\/milwaukee-bucks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milwaukee Bucks<\/a> and <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"61719eb2-11c3-4e3d-90c3-0a1319fd850b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/team\/_\/name\/ny\/new-york-knicks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Knicks<\/a> Knicks.<\/p>\n<p>Schroder is averaging 12.8 points and 5.3 rebounds this season, his first season with the Kings after signing a three-year deal last summer. Schroder is owed $14.1 million, $14.8 million and $15.5 million on the final three years of his deal, with the final year partially guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p>Schroder and Chicago&#8217;s <a data-player-guid=\"98f3f8f5-c8df-8c65-7de5-524a78fff469\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4395626\/tre-jones\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tre Jones<\/a> are the only players averaging 10 points and 5 assists off the bench this season.<\/p>\n<p>Ellis, who has averaged 5.6 points, is one of two players in the NBA averaging 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per 36 minutes this season, joining Detroit&#8217;s <a data-player-guid=\"ee7a682c-a3e6-39eb-9bfa-2b7a84ae7e76\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/player\/_\/id\/4684742\/ausar-thompson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ausar Thompson<\/a>.
