<\/p>\n MIDLAND, Mich. & YPSILANTI, Mich. \u2013 The Oakland tennis team split its matches against Northwood and Eastern Michigan during its first weekend road trip of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n AGAINST THE TIMBERWOLVES Jarvinen (6-3, 6-3) and senior Tara Montreuil<\/a> (6-4, 6-4) cruised past their opponents on courts No. 5 and 6, adding key points for Oakland. Freshman Oliwia Klimas<\/a> battled through a tight first set on court No. 3 before closing out her match, 7-6(5), 6-3. Those three singles victories sealed the 4-3 win for Oakland over the Timberwolves.<\/p>\n AGAINST THE EAGLES In doubles, Hammond and Jarvinen led 3-2 before eventually falling, 4-6, to Eastern’s Matilde Parreira and Sabrina Tolstova. Holmes and Piechowicz were also defeated, giving the Eagles the doubles point and the early lead.<\/p>\n The Eagles then jumped out to a 2-0 advantage before singles play began due to an Oakland injury, which resulted in a forfeit on court No. 6. Forced to play from behind, the Golden Grizzlies needed to win four of the remaining five singles matches to secure the overall victory. Although sophomore Nisa Bulut<\/a> (6-4, 6-2), Klimas (6-2, 6-3), and Hammond (7-5, 6-1) notched singles wins, Eastern was able to take two matches to earn a 4-3 win.<\/p>\n DOUBLES RESULTS

\nThe Golden Grizzlies (1-1) earned their first win of the season on January 30, defeating Northwood (0-1) on the Timberwolves’ home court. Freshman Charlotte Holmes<\/a> and sophomore Martyna Piechowicz<\/a> (6-3), along with juniors Emilia Jarvinen<\/a> and Edie Hammond<\/a> (6-2), secured doubles wins for the Black and Gold, clinching the doubles point and giving Oakland a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.<\/p>\n
\nWith a tightly contested match and an injury for the Black and Gold, Oakland (1-2) fell to the undefeated Eastern Michigan Eagles (6-0) on January 31st. The Eagles, who have now tied the best start in program history, clinched the match by winning the first four points, but the Golden Grizzlies continued to battle and claimed the final three points.<\/p>\n
