(File photo\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegobloodbank.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Blood Bank<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdgirlscouts.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Girl Scouts San Diego<\/a> are teaming up for the second consecutive year, offering donors who give blood at a San Diego Blood Bank donor center or mobile blood drive a free box of Thin Mints while supplies last, it was announced Monday.<\/p>\n<p>According to the blood bank, 40 Girl Scout troops across San Diego and Imperial counties hosted community blood drives from October to January, collecting more than 750 pints of blood for hospital patients throughout Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlood donations are critically needed year-round, and partnerships like this help us thank our donors while raising awareness about the ongoing need,\u201d said San Diego Blood Bank chief executive Douglas Morton. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to once again team up with Girl Scouts of San Diego to make giving back even more rewarding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sweet incentive is intended to \u201cinspire both first-time and returning donors to help ensure a safe and reliable blood supply for local hospitals and patients,\u201d a statement from the organizations read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor generations, Girl Scouts have stepped up to serve our communities,\u201d said Carol Dedrich, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts San Diego. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPartnering with San Diego Blood Bank during the Girl Scout Cookie Program season allows us to shine a light on two missions rooted in service \u2014 encouraging lifesaving blood donations while showcasing the leadership, confidence, and compassion Girl Scouts develop through these experiences of hosting blood drives back in December and January and running their own cookie business now through March 8.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.<\/p>\n<p>Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.
