California Farm Bureau says State Sen. Shannon Grove, R-Bakersfield, and state Sen. Melissa Hurtado, D-Bakersfield, have introduced legislation to create a tax credit for agricultural employers to help cover the cost of paying overtime wages to farmworkers.<\/p>\n
Senate\u00a0Bill\u00a0921,\u00a0co-sponsored by\u00a0the\u00a0California Farm Bureau\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0California Association of Winegrape Growers, aims to ensure farmworkers have more opportunities to earn overtime pay while also providing relief to struggling agricultural businesses.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m proud to introduce SB\u00a0921, a straightforward bill that gives California\u2019s farm employers a payroll tax credit to help cover the extra cost of overtime pay for our hardworking farmworkers,\u201d\u00a0Grove\u00a0said. \u201cThis means more overtime hours and better take-home pay for the folks who put food on America\u2019s tables.<\/p>\n
