{"id":161048,"date":"2026-02-03T00:08:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T00:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/161048\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T00:08:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T00:08:06","slug":"california-man-dies-after-snorkeling-incident-on-maui","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/161048\/","title":{"rendered":"California man dies after snorkeling incident on Maui"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man from California died over the weekend after becoming unresponsive while snorkeling at Makena, according to Maui police.<\/p>\n<p>The Maui Police Department has identified him as Frank Archuleta Jr., 69, of Huntington Beach, Calif.<\/p>\n<p>Officers responded to an 11:45 a.m. call Saturday at Makena Landing after Archuleta was pulled unresponsive from the ocean, according to an MPD news release.<\/p>\n<p>Archuleta had reportedly been snorkeling when he lost consciousness and was brought to shore by bystanders who immediately began lifesaving measures.<\/p>\n<p>First responders took over upon arriving shortly after, but were unable to revive him.<\/p>\n<p>Police said, based on a preliminary investigation, there are no signs of foul play.
