The newly-launched Los Angeles Tool Library is a service that the community has long been waiting for.<\/p>\n

The tool lending service, located in the basement of Hope Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Koreatown<\/a>, not only helps reduce waste and save residents money and space, but also makes moving in and out easier for short-term residents.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was the greatest idea I\u2019ve ever had in my life,\u201d said Tim Muir, who visited the library for the first time Monday.<\/p>\n

The library launched two weeks ago, and it’s staffed by volunteers.<\/p>\n

Visitors to the library can take basic tools like ladders, dollies and painting equipment, but heavy-duty machines like an average miter saw are also available for check out.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn average miter saw is a tool that you would use if you\u2019re doing framing or building a table,\u201d said Lydia Savage, a founding member of the tool library. \u201cYou need to cut down a lot of lumber (and) a decent one can cost $350 and up.\u201d<\/p>\n

The library was inspired by others like it, such as the Makers Hub in Compton<\/a>, which donated $4,000 worth of materials to help the Koreatown location get off the ground.<\/p>\n

Membership at the LA Tool Library is open to anyone and costs $9, but fees are on a sliding scale and can be offset by volunteering.<\/p>\n

The library is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The newly-launched Los Angeles Tool Library is a service that the community has long been waiting for.
