A 21-year-old pedestrian who was struck by Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus in Oakland is \u201cup and walking\u201d and expected to be released from the hospital Tuesday, a transit agency spokesman said.<\/p>\n
First responders took the woman, who authorities have not named, to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in critical but stable condition after a PRT bus struck her while she walked on a Fifth Avenue crosswalk around 7 p.m. on Monday, spokesman Adam Brandolph said.<\/p>\n
The extent of her injuries remains unclear. Brandolph said the woman \u201cwas reported to be up and walking\u201d Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The 58-Greenfield bus was turning left onto Fifth Avenue at Neville Street when it hit the woman, Brandolph said. The bus had been traveling from PRT\u2019s East Liberty garage to begin its route near Carnegie Mellon University.<\/p>\n
There were two people on the bus when it struck the woman. Neither rider was injured.<\/p>\n
The bus later was towed to the garage and quarantined for investigators.<\/p>\n
Brandolph said the bus driver, \u201ca 25-year PRT veteran,\u201d was placed on paid leave while the transit agency investigates.<\/p>\n
