CHICAGO \u2013 The slumping San Jose Sharks<\/a> could be on the verge of getting a badly needed reinforcement<\/a> to their lineup.<\/p>\n

Two weeks after he was first acquired, forward Kiefer Sherwood<\/a> was a full participant in the Sharks\u2019 30-minute practice in Chicago on Tuesday as he skated on the team\u2019s top line alongside Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith.<\/p>\n

Sherwood also did drills with the Sharks\u2019 second power play unit alongside forwards Michael Misa and Philipp Kurashev, and defensemen Dmitry Orlov and John Klingberg. The first unit was comprised five forwards: Celebrini, Smith, Tyler Toffoli, William Eklund, and Alex Wennberg.<\/p>\n

At one point, Sherwood, on the left flank, took a pass from Klingberg and one-timed a shot that got past Yaroslav Askarov, eliciting a cheer from Klingberg.<\/p>\n

Sherwood has been with the Sharks since their road trip began early last week. He took part in the Sharks\u2019 morning skate on Monday at the United Center, with coach Ryan Warsofsky saying afterward that the winger was going to be reevaluated before the team decided the next step.<\/p>\n

The Sharks play the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday in Denver in their final game before the Olympic break.<\/p>\n

Also in Tuesday\u2019s practice, Misa and Wennberg switched lines, with Misa centering the second line with Toffoli and Eklund, and Wennberg the third line center with Collin Graf and Kurashev on the wings.<\/p>\n

Sherwood, 30, was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 19 for two second-round draft picks and AHL defenseman Cole Clayton. The Sharks beat the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers that night and improved to a season-best six games above .500 with a 5-2 win over the Canucks on Jan. 27.<\/p>\n

Sherwood has been out with an upper body injury and hasn\u2019t played since Jan. 10, and remained on injured reserve as of Tuesday morning. The Sharks, already at the 23-player maximum, will need to create a roster spot<\/a> to activate Sherwood.<\/p>\n

The Sharks lost 4-3<\/a> to the Edmonton Oilers last Thursday and 3-2 to the Calgary Flames<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Sharks, though, have now lost three straight games, including a 6-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday. They entered Tuesday three points out of a playoff spot.<\/p>\n
