The California Highway Patrol responded to a Jan. 18 two-vehicle crash on Clovis Avenue, south of Golden State Boulevard, that left a 23-year-old Fresno man dead, the agency said.<\/p>\n
The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner\u2019s Office identified the man Tuesday as Michael Molano.<\/p>\n
Investigators determined that a 40-year-old man was driving a 2021 Freightliner northbound on Clovis Avenue and was in the process of making a U-turn to head southbound when Molano, driving a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, was traveling southbound on Clovis Avenue.<\/p>\n
Because of heavy fog, Molano\u2019s pickup collided with the trailer of the Freightliner, authorities said.<\/p>\n
The Freightliner driver felt the impact and pulled to the right shoulder with the pickup lodged under the trailer. Molano\u2019s vehicle was engulfed in flames while trapped underneath the trailer.<\/p>\n
Molano sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the Freightliner driver was not injured.<\/p>\n
CHP said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.<\/p>\n
