The multidisciplinary artist created the \u2018Los Angeles\u2019 February cover<\/p>\n

Art has long\u00a0helped Isabelle\u00a0Brourman<\/a>\u00a0focus. \u201cMy friends would bring in their shoes, and I would get in trouble in school for \u2026 doodling [on them],\u201d she recalls. \u201cThe teacher called me out, [but] I was able to repeat what they were saying verbatim, so it\u2019s always been sort of a method of actually concentrating and maybe even meditation for me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hailing from Pittsburgh,\u00a0Brourman\u00a0evolved her doodles into a BA in art history from the University of Michigan and an MFA from the Pratt Institute in painting and drawing, the latter landing her in New York City. The multidisciplinary artist\u2019s profile rose when she began capturing high-profile court cases through an abstract lens as a courtroom sketch artist, first starting with\u00a0Depp v. Heard\u00a0in Fairfax County, Virginia in 2022. Since then, she has crafted pieces from\u00a0The People v. Donald Trump\u00a0and\u00a0The People v. Danny Masterson, and at Nicol\u00e1s Maduro\u2019s arraignment at immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza in New York City, among others. The 33-year-old also painted a portrait of President Donald J. Trump, which he sat for at Mar-a-Lago.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brourman\u2019s\u00a0favorite art show she has ever done is also her first solo exhibition: the presentation of her\u00a0Depp v. Heard\u00a0sketches at Murmurs Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles during summer 2023. She and the Murmurs team reconstructed a courtroom using\u00a0furniture and appliances they found at a set shop\u00a0down the street. \u201cI received a lot of hesitation in New York about showing that work because the whole thing had become such a charade,\u201d\u00a0Brourman\u00a0says. \u201cBut I thought it was\u00a0really important\u00a0that because of that, we had time to reflect on what made that trial the way it was, and why we were paying attention to it the way we did. And so, L.A. understood what that was all about.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her appreciation for the city is further\u00a0evidenced\u00a0by her cover art for this month\u2019s issue of Los Angeles magazine. Overlaying a psychedelic pink and green wormhole,\u00a0Brourman\u00a0digested the city\u2019s arts and culture giants \u2014 Walt Disney Concert Hall, Getty Villa,\u00a0LACMA\u00a0and its new Jeff Koons\u00a0\u201cSplit-Rocker\u201d\u00a0sculpture, Getty Center and\u00a0its\u00a0How to Be a Guerrilla Girl\u00a0exhibition \u2014through her fantastical artistic vision.\u00a0<\/p>\n
