{"id":165296,"date":"2026-02-05T16:13:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T16:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/165296\/"},"modified":"2026-02-05T16:13:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T16:13:10","slug":"detroiter-sentenced-for-murdering-2-in-hazel-park-the-oakland-press","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/165296\/","title":{"rendered":"Detroiter sentenced for murdering 2 in Hazel Park \u2013 The Oakland Press"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Detroiter who killed two men in Hazel Park four years ago will spend the rest of his life in prison, as sentenced by an Oakland County judge Feb. 3.<\/p>\n<p>Keko Romel Martin, 34, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theoaklandpress.com\/2025\/09\/30\/verdict-in-for-detroiter-accused-of-shooting-to-death-2-men-in-hazel-park\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was convicted last September<\/a> of two counts of first-degree premeditated\u00a0 homicide for the Jan. 14, 2022 fatal shootings of Eddie Matthews, 29, and Nathan Jacobs, 29. The murders happened outside the former Timeless Gallery rental hall on John R Road where a memorial service was being held. Matthews and Jacobs were sitting in a car when they were approached by a group of men, including Martin, who fired into the vehicle. Matthews and Jacobs were shot multiple times.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"mugshot\" width=\"246\" height=\"291\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/DTN-L-HPmurderSuspect0913-01-e1759251567396.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"836989\" \/>Keko Martin (Hazel Park Police Dept.)<\/p>\n<p>Martin was also convicted of two counts of conspiracy to commit murder, four counts of felony firearm, and being a habitual offender-third offense.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Victoria Valentine of Oakland County Circuit Court issued the sentence.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"mugshot\" width=\"255\" height=\"192\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/TOP-L-guiltydoublemurder0930-01.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"1686532\" \/>Michael Hicks (MDOC)<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"suspects\" width=\"203\" height=\"228\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/martin-and-hicks-e1759262366850.jpg\" data-attachment-id=\"772190\" \/>Ricco Hicks (photo shared by Crime Stoppers)<\/p>\n<p>Co-defendant Michael Hicks, 42, was convicted in 2024 of two counts of second-degree homicide and felony firearm for the fatal shootings. He\u2019s serving 40 to 60 years for the murders and an additional two years for the weapons-related offense. Two counts of first-degree premeditated homicide and conspiracy to commit murder were dismissed.
