(Photo courtesy of Musical Theatre West).\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Maybe \u201cmad\u201d is the wrong word. \u201cQuixotic\u201d would be better.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, with book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion, and music by Mitch Leigh, \u201cMan of La Mancha\u201d is less a literal retelling of \u201cDon Quixote\u201d than a meditation on why stories matter and why there\u2019s power in impossibility.<\/p>\n<p>Running until Sunday, March 1, the show already has limited availability on some nights, so be sure to secure your tickets at <a href=\"http:\/\/musical.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">musical.org<\/a> soon.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Cole Conservatory<\/p>\n<p>The Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSULB opens February with two distinctly different \u2014 and equally compelling \u2014 concert experiences, each spotlighting the breadth of talent thriving on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Produced by CSULB\u2019s Student Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), \u201cBeach Caf\u00e9 Goes to Broadway!\u201d hopes to offer a lively, celebratory evening that channels the spirit of New York City in song.<\/p>\n<p>Created in honor of the chapter\u2019s upcoming Carnegie Hall tour in June, the program pays tribute to the Big Apple through a wide-ranging mix of Broadway favorites, jazz standards, and choral works that capture the city\u2019s energy.<\/p>\n<p>The concert showcases not only CSULB\u2019s accomplished choirs and jazz ensembles, but also standout individual student performances, creating a caf\u00e9-style atmosphere that highlights both ensemble excellence and emerging voices.<\/p>\n<p>Performances are on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a nice way to send these performers off to Carnegie Hall in style.<\/p>\n<p>Then, enjoy a faculty artist recital on Monday, Feb. 9, when cellist David Garrett presents a program of Baroque depth with \u201cBach and His Influence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David Garrett, faculty artist at Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, will trace the remarkable reach of Johann Sebastian Bach\u2019s musical language across three centuries of cello repertoire.<\/p>\n<p>Joined by faculty colleagues Sheng-Ching Hsu (violin) and Phillip Triggs (viola), as well as students from his cello studio, Garrett curates a program that is both scholarly and deeply expressive.<\/p>\n<p>The recital centers on Bach\u2019s \u201cCello Suite No. 3,\u201d a cornerstone of the instrument\u2019s literature, and expands outward to reveal Bach\u2019s imprint on later composers.<\/p>\n<p>Works include Max Reger\u2019s \u201cSuite No. 1,\u201d Garrett\u2019s own arrangement of Bach\u2019s \u201cRicercar a 3\u201d from Bach\u2019s \u201cThe Musical Offering,\u201d and Heitor Villa-Lobos\u2019s \u201cBachianas Brasileiras No. 1,\u201d a 20th-century Brazilian homage to the master.<\/p>\n<p>These two February programs, both taking place in Daniel Recital Hall and free to the public, reflect the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music\u2019s commitment to musical diversity and educational excellence.<\/p>\n<p>Check out <a href=\"http:\/\/shorturl.at\/U838J\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">shorturl.at\/U838J<\/a> for more info.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Do you like me?
