SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jos\u00e9 State softball team will open the 2026 season in the Stanford Invitational from Friday, Feb. 6 to Sunday, Feb. 8. The Spartans will play five games in the event, competing against No. 20 Oklahoma State, No. 17 Stanford and Cal. Two games will be featured on the ACC Network.<\/p>\n

\nThe last time the Spartans defeated a nationally ranked opponent was also the last time they defeated Stanford, on April 17, 2012, in a 2-1 victory, in San Jose. Stanford was ranked No. 16 at that time.\u00a0
\nThe Spartans currently hold an 11-29 record against the Cardinal. The last time the two faced was on March 9, 2024, where the Cardinal topped the Spartans 10-2.\u00a0
\nSJSU holds a 7-48 record against Cal. The Spartans defeated the Golden Bears 3-1 in their last meeting on April 8, 2025. This was also the last time the Spartans defeated a Power Four Opponent.\u00a0
\nOklahoma State and SJSU have played once before on March 16, 2012, where the Spartans defeated the Cowgirls 1-0.
\nThe Spartans will see seniors Reina Zermeno<\/a>, Ahmiya Noriega<\/a> and Shay McDowell<\/a> return.\u00a0
\nNoriega was named to the All-Mountain West Preseason Team after leading the nation in triples last season with 10 while slashing a .352 avg, 26 RBIs, eight doubles and two homeruns.\u00a0<\/p>\n
