As Super Bowl LX approaches, the Clovis Police Department is reminding residents to plan ahead for a safe ride home.<\/p>\n
Extra officers will be on patrol Sunday, looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drug, the department said in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuper Bowl celebrations are a time for fun and community, but safety should always come first,\u201d said Sgt. Abby Padgett, traffic supervisor. \u201cIf you plan to drink, make sure you have a reliable way to get home, whether that\u2019s a designated sober driver, rideshare, taxi or public transportation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police advise fans to choose a sober driver, offer non-alcoholic options if hosting, and intervene if friends or family try to drive impaired. Impairment isn\u2019t limited to alcohol \u2014 prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, cannabis products and other substances can also affect driving.<\/p>\n
Anyone who suspects a driver is impaired should call 9-1-1.<\/p>\n
The department\u2019s safety campaign is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n
