OAKLAND \u2014 Human remains that apparently had been dismembered were found Sunday morning in East Oakland and the death is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said.<\/p>\n
An autopsy will determine if the remains are those of a man or woman and how they died.<\/p>\n
The remains were found about 10:06 a.m. Sunday outside near some railroad tracks in the 9700 block of San Leandro Street, not far from 98th Avenue.<\/p>\n
Police said the remains appeared to be in a state of decomposition and dismemberment.<\/p>\n
Investigators said they believe the remains had been there for several days and that they were brought to the site from somewhere else.<\/p>\n
No other information has been released.<\/p>\n
The death is the ninth homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time, police had investigated 13 homicides in the city.<\/p>\n
