LET’S TALK WEATHER NOW. OPHELIA IS HERE WITH DETAILS. AND YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS YOU SAID EARLIER ABOUT THIS FOG IS THAT THERE’S REALLY NO RHYME OR REASON TO WHERE IT IS OR WHERE IT LANDS. YEAH. YESTERDAY IT WAS IN STOCKTON, AND TODAY IT’S DENSE IN SACRAMENTO. YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE THESE DENSE FOG ADVISORIES THAT ARE ISSUED EVERY MORNING, AND SACRAMENTO WASN’T EVEN INCLUDED IN THIS ADVISORY. BUT WE’VE GOT SOME OF THE DENSER FOG CURRENTLY. YEAH. ALL OF OUR CAMERAS LOOK LIKE THIS RIGHT NOW. IN FACT, THIS ONE IS THE BEST ONE. AT LEAST YOU COULD SEE A LIGHT OFF IN THE DISTANCE AT SUTTER HEALTH BALLPARK, BUT VISIBILITY DOWN TO LESS THAN A QUARTER MILE IN SACRAMENTO ALL THE WAY UP TO THE AIRPORT, ALL THE WAY DOWN THROUGH STOCKTON AND MODESTO. VERY SOUPY WEATHER. HOWEVER, ANYWHERE OUT OF THE VALLEY, IF YOU’RE DRIVING WEST OF THE BAY AREA, YOUR VISIBILITY IS FINE. YOU’RE DRIVING OUT OF THE FOG, HEADED NORTH, HEADED EAST INTO THE SIERRA. YOU’VE GOT GREAT VISIBILITY AS WELL. HOWEVER, IF YOU DON’T LIKE THE FOG, CHECK OUT THESE TEMPERATURES WHERE THE FOG IS. TEMPERATURES ARE A LITTLE MORE COMFORTABLE. 46 IN SACRAMENTO. COMPARE THAT TO 39 IN YUBA CITY. WE ALSO HAVE 40S IN STOCKTON MODESTO FOOTHILLS IN THE 40S TRUCKEE AND SOUTH LAKE TAHOE IN THE LOW 20S CURRENTLY. WELL, THE FOG SHOULD PULL SOUTH FROM SACRAMENTO RIGHT AROUND NINE 10:00 THIS MORNING AND THEN SHOULD BE OUT OF THE VALLEY BY LUNCHTIME. AND THEN THAT FULL SUNSHINE LATER THIS AFTERNOON GOING TO TAKE US ALL THE WAY UP INTO THE UPPER 60S. ONCE AGAIN, WINDS ARE GOING TO BE LIGHT. IT’S GOING TO BE A REALLY NICE AND PLEASANT AFTERNOON. NOW TONIGHT WE DO DROP BACK INTO THE 40S FOR LOWS, BUT WE’RE GOING TO NOTICE INCREASING CLOUDS AND THAT’S GOING TO SIGNAL SOME CHANGES. SO WHAT’S HAPPENING SYNOPTICALLY. WE HAVE THIS AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE THAT’S JUST BEEN CAMPED OUT OVER THE WEST COAST RIGHT. WELL, WE HAVE THIS WEAK DISTURBANCE THAT’S MOVING IN. IT’S NOT GOING TO BRING US ANY RAIN, BUT IT IS GOING TO KICK OFF SOME DIFFERENT WEATHER PATTERN NEXT WEEK. SO THE REST OF THIS WEEK, FOGGY MORNING, WARM AFTERNOONS THIS WEEKEND, SORT OF LIKE THE TRANSITION PERIOD. SUDDENLY COOLER WITH INCREASING CLOUDS, INCLUDING FOR SUPER BOWL SUNDAY NEXT WEEK, HOWEVER, BREEZES AND THEN SHOWER CHANCES. YEAH, WE HAVE A SYSTEM THAT WILL MOVE THROUGH ON MONDAY. DROPPING OFF A FEW SHOWERS, SNOW SHOWERS IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS, AND THEN A SECOND ONE THAT WILL BRING US MORE WIDESPREAD SHOWERS, ESPECIALLY DOWN INTO THE VALLEY. SO IN THE FOOTHILLS GETS BUSY FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE SEVEN DAY FORECAST. SHOWER CHANCES ARRIVING ON MONDAY AND THE SIERRA SNOW SHOWERS ON MONDAY AS WELL. IN THE VALLEY ON MONDA

Northern California forecast: Dense Thursday fog before sunny afternoon

Even though the National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory only for the San Joaquin Valley on Thursday, parts of Sacramento are also seeing heavy fog this morning.

   Updated: 11:29 AM PST Feb 5, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Even though the National Weather Service issued a Dense Fog Advisory only for the San Joaquin Valley on Thursday, parts of Sacramento are also seeing heavy fog this morning. The fog advisory is in effect through noon for Stockton, Modesto and other Central Valley counties south of Stanislaus County. However, several of KCRA 3 and Caltrans’ cameras show dense fog covering the region.Meteorologist Ophelia Young said the fog will eventually give way to sunny skies and spring-like temperatures.
