<\/p>\nBAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 This year’s persistent fog has led to numerous school delays and closures, impacting students’ attendance and daily routines. <\/p>\n
The Delano Union School District has experienced six fog delays, while the Lakeside Union School District has faced four delays and three full closures. <\/p>\n
The Kern High School District has reported three delays.<\/p>\n

Jessica McWilliams expressed surprise at the frequency of disruptions, saying, “Oh, my goodness. It’s been more than what I expected. I think we’ve had at least five or six so far, including a few closures that they had to close school for the whole day.”<\/p>\n
Parents are grappling with childcare challenges due to the unpredictable schedule. <\/p>\n
McWilliams shared, “I do work full time, but luckily with family, friends, support, we were able to figure it out.”<\/p>\n

Mariella Ruiz, a mother and teacher in the Buttonwillow School District, noted that frequent fog delays disrupt students’ routines and learning experiences. <\/p>\n
Parker, a student from the Rio Bravo District, added, “I don’t like them at the same time, because we kind of have to make them up.”<\/p>\n
In response, some districts are adjusting schedules to minimize the impact. <\/p>\n

The Lakeside Union School District has added extra instructional minutes, while the Kern High School District has banked 240 minutes to cover delays and may cut future early-out days if necessary. <\/p>\n
