The Los Angeles Angels have made a ton of moves this offseason to the delight of their fan base, but while most of the moves are an attempt to address the organization\u2019s biggest need, they haven\u2019t necessarily addressed one of the other big priorities going into the offseason.<\/p>\n
The Angels<\/a> need a bona fide center fielder and not a corner outfielder sliding over to fill a void. Most of the team\u2019s options for center field either don\u2019t play the position primarily or they are good defensively but lack offensively. Center fielder Bryce Teodosio has a great glove, but in 55 career games since 2024, the 26-year-old has a career OPS of .523 and OPS+ of 45.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n The organization recently signed center fielder Jose Siri to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training, but you guessed it: great fielder \u2013 not the best hitter.<\/p>\n The club\u2019s primary center fielder in 2025 was Jo Adell, who has experience but is a far better defender in right field. Adell has minus-10 defensive runs saved as a center fielder in his career (846 innings), per<\/a> Baseball Reference.<\/p>\n Last month, Los Angeles acquired right fielder Josh Lowe from the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-team trade and Lowe is expected to be in the mix to be the everyday center fielder, but he fits the bill of sliding over to fill a void. Lowe has barely played center field in his career, and the defensive metrics aren\u2019t kind (minus-5 DRS<\/a> over 156 innings).<\/p>\n So, ESPN\u2019s David Schoenfield created a trade proposal between the Angels and Houston Astros that would help both teams as we approach spring training. The Halos would trade the newly acquired Lowe to the Astros in exchange for center fielder Jake Meyers.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Schoenfield explained that the Astros are looking for a left-handed bat and that Meyers has been available, making this a perfect trade for both teams.<\/p>\n Meyers is an excellent defender and is coming off the best all-around season of his career. He only hit three home runs and drove in 24 runs, but he slashed an exceptional .292\/.354\/.373 in 104 games. Oh, and he has 22 DRS<\/a> in 3,487.1 innings as a center fielder.<\/p>\n
