{"id":169293,"date":"2026-02-08T14:22:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-08T14:22:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/169293\/"},"modified":"2026-02-08T14:22:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T14:22:15","slug":"mtw-footlighters-enjoy-music-in-the-morning-luncheon-press-telegram","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/169293\/","title":{"rendered":"MTW Footlighters enjoy Music in the Morning luncheon \u2013 Press Telegram"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Celebrating the upcoming Musical Theatre West production of \u201cMan of La Mancha,\u201d 80 members of the MTW Footlighters met for their traditional\u201cMusic in the Morning preview luncheon at the Grand on Monday, Jan. 3.<\/p>\n<p>As a prelude to the upcoming show, tables were set with beautiful centerpieces of red and gold flowers topped with a replica of the iconic helmet worn by Don Quixote in the musical.\u201cMan of La Mancha\u201d will run from Feb. 13 to March 1 at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center on the Cal State Long Beach campus.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the cast regaled the attendees with songs from the show, including the headliner Richard Bermudez, Reggie de Leon and Monica Pe\u00f1a. (Courtesy photo)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Citing \u201cMan of La Mancha\u201d as her favorite musical, Footlighters President Marnos Lelesi thanked the performers and recognized the members of MTW\u2019s trustees who were present, including Nancy Conger, Robert Green and Joan Wells.<\/p>\n<p>MTW Executive Director Paul Garmen was introduced and gave an overview of upcoming events, including two sold-out Travel Club excursions to New York, and the upcomingFootlighters scholarship luncheon in June, where scholarships from funds raised by the Footlighters are awarded to high school students. Garmen described a number of EducationOutreach programs, also supported by the Footlighters, including several student matinees for upcoming performances provided at no cost to the schools. He then read some charming letters from young students who had had attended shows in the past, many of whom saw live musical theater for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the student matinees and scholarships, the Footlighters also support touring performances to local schools; a children\u2019s summer camp culminating in a performance on stage; classes in acting, singing and improvisation for all ages; and Community Connection family events with games and activities. More than 21,000 students participated in these various programs last year.<\/p>\n<p>After lunch, opportunity tickets were drawn for baskets and items arranged by Diane Spiegel and Lisa Maloney. Among the lucky winners were Roxanne Korzenioski and Claudia Albert, who won the coveted pearl necklace and bracelet. More winners were Carol Borowick, Marilyn Gabel and Sandra Pearlman, as well as Jan Foster, who claimed a \u201cchilly day\u201d basket of socks, candy and wine.<\/p>\n<p>Seen at the scene: Chris Huff, Pam Dingwell, Carol and Bradley Bradfield, Stephanie Davis, Sara Forster, Stephanie Gliebe, Janan Johnson, Nancy Koblenski, Sherry Loos, MaryKayPeterson, Ami Silverman. Members of the MTW Board including Barbara Blackwell, Barbara Goen, Leslie Kelly, Roxanne Korzeniowski, Diane Spiegel, Cynthia Terry, and Jan Hall Zolan. Footlighters who assisted with the event, including Gloria Nelson, handling reservations (as well as making the fabulous centerpieces); Beverly Silverman, Shirley Chiavetta; Temre Vouga, Nancy Eilers, Steve Hicke, Suzy Elliott, Sandra Pearlman, Ginny Pace. Members of the MTW staff present were General Manager Douglas Senecal, Associate Producer Bren Thor and Facilities Manager Daryl Leach.<\/p>\n<p>Boy Scout auction luncheon<\/p>\n<p>Carli Steers was the lucky bidder at the recent Boy Scout luncheon for a special lunch at Nigel\u2019s restaurant. And special it was, for Shirlee Bouch on her birthday. Ever the gracious host, Nigel greeted the group and ensured it was an event to remember.<\/p>\n<p>The ladies had fun, enjoying not only the delicious dining but also the fun atmosphere that features pink \u2014 which was beautifully showcased in every way.
