People linger, wine moves more slowly, voices soften, and conversation becomes the true centerpiece of the evening.\u201d \u2013  from the Sobremesa menu cover.<\/p>\n<p>After a whirlwind few months of planning, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sobremesasd.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.sobremesasd.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sobremesa<\/a> opened in December 2025 with Latin-inspired cuisine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The menu has rocked the Lake Murray and East County food scene with cuisine influenced by flavors from Mexico, as well as South and Central America.<\/p>\n<p>The dishes include many ingredients that might be new to even experienced diners.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For example, with appetizers, try a rich queso fundido, which has sweet corn and huitlacoche succotash.\u00a0 If you\u2019re not familiar with huitlacoche, it is a corn fungus that is considered a delicacy in Mexico, sometimes referred to as Mexican truffle. The queso is sauteed with corn, onions and garlic and blended with cheese. Also in this dish are queso oaxaqueno and chile Fresno.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019d like to try a unique guacamole, the guacamole de guadalupe is made with crispy lentils and chickpeas, purslane (an edible \u201cweed\u201d), zahtar (a popular Middle Eastern spice blend) and crispy tortilla chips.<\/p>\n<p>And then there\u2019s the tacos and tostadas. The menu features eight different versions, available in both vegetarian and meat-based options.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant also offers shared plates, such as camar\u00f3n zarandeado, which is garlic-marinated shrimp with refried beans, panela cheese and butter rice. Another enticing shared plate is pescado a la talla, which is seared branzino (European sea bass) with garlic and chile adobo, blistered shishitos and arugula.<\/p>\n<p>Save room for dessert, either familiar or exotic.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for something new, consider the pastel de elote asado, a charred corn with cr\u00e8me anglaise in macerated blueberries and ice cream. For the familiar, try the chocolate abuelita sundae.
