STANFORD, Calif. – Delaney Faus<\/a> pitched six innings while only allowing three hits and one run to lead San Jos\u00e9 State softball (1-4, 0-0 MW) in a 1-0 loss to Cal (1-3, 0-0 ACC), in the final game of the Stanford Invitational.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The contest was a defensive stalemate for much of the morning, with both teams remaining scoreless through the first five innings. The Spartans\u2019 defense was sharp,\u00a0committing zero errors throughout the contest.<\/p>\n

Cal broke the deadlock in the bottom of the sixth inning when Kyndal Todd hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the game’s only run.<\/p>\n

The loss snaps the Spartans’ two-game winning streak over the Golden Bears.<\/p>\n

Pitching Performance: Faus threw 61 pitches, 46 of which were strikes, while striking out two batters in her first-ever complete game.
\nOffensive Spark: Reina Zermeno<\/a> provided the primary offensive highlight for the Spartans, recording a double off Cal\u2019s Mya McGowan. Zermeno finished the day with two total bases.
\nCarly Cummings<\/a>, Sarah Deplitch<\/a>, and Ahmiya Noriega<\/a> each reached base safely and each contributed one of the Spartans’ four hits on the day.<\/p>\n
