{"id":169828,"date":"2026-02-09T01:32:32","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T01:32:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/169828\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T01:32:32","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T01:32:32","slug":"body-of-stockton-mother-who-went-missing-after-dune-buggy-crash-recovered-family-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/169828\/","title":{"rendered":"Body of Stockton mother who went missing after dune buggy crash recovered, family says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The body of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sacramento\/news\/community-searches-for-stockton-mother-missing-after-dune-buggy-crash-in-canal\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">missing Stockton mother<\/a>\u00a0was recovered from a canal after a dune buggy crash at the end of January, her family tells CBS Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p>Lupita Ontiveros had been missing after the California Highway Patrol said a dune buggy crashed into the Delta-Mendota Canal near Highway 140 at Gravel Pit Road in Merced County on Jan. 28. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/lupita-lizbeth-zuniga-ontiveros.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"lupita-lizbeth-zuniga-ontiveros.jpg \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  \u00a0 Lupita Lizbeth Zuniga Ontiveros<\/p>\n<p>                GoFundMe<\/p>\n<p>Officers said the dune buggy entered the canal at about 10 mph amid poor visibility caused by darkness and dust.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The driver, identified as 21-year-old Elixandro Naranjo Miranda, and two passengers were able to reach the bank of the canal and climb out, but Ontiveros was unaccounted for, officers said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, the Merced County sheriff&#8217;s office said a body was recovered about seven miles from the crash site.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Though authorities have not released the identification, Ontiveros&#8217; family told CBS Sacramento the body was hers.
