STANFORD, Calif. – Sarah Deplitch<\/a> hit her first home run of the season, plus had a double and a pair of RBIs to lead San Jos\u00e9 State softball (1-3, 0-0 MW) in a 10-2 run-rule victory over Cal (0-3, 0-0 ACC) in the second day of the Stanford Invitational from Stanford Softball Stadium on Saturday. The Spartans fell 16-4 in five innings to No. 17 Stanford (4-0, 0-0 ACC) in the nightcap.<\/p>\n

Game 1: Cal<\/p>\n

Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the second, the Spartan offense ignited for eight runs to break the game open. The power surge was highlighted by\u00a0Deplitch, who launched a two-out solo home run off Cal\u2019s Mya McGowan. SJSU\u2019s hitters proved lethal with two outs, accounting for nine of their 10 RBIs in the contest. Shay McDowell<\/a> drove in three runs with two outs, while Reina Zermeno<\/a>, Ahmiya Noriega<\/a>, and Deplitch each added two two-out RBIs.<\/p>\n

The Spartans have a two-game win streak against ACC opponent Cal.
\nOffensive Powerhouse: The Spartans recorded 10 hits, led by\u00a0Deplitch (2-for-3, HR, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Zermeno (2-for-3, 3B, 2 RBI, 1 R), McDowell (1-for 3, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R), and Noriega (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 R).
\nStarting Pitching: Norah Coulsell<\/a>\u00a0earned her first career win (1\u20131), tossing a complete five-inning game, allowing six hits and zero earned runs.
\nSophia Burdick<\/a> had a perfect game, going 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored<\/p>\n

Game 2: No. 17 Stanford<\/p>\n

The Spartans came out aggressive in the opening frame, jumping to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The momentum continued in the second inning when\u00a0Burdick hit her first career inside-the-park home run.<\/p>\n

The Cardinal responded immediately with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and then broke the game open in the second inning, plating seven runs to take an 11-4 lead.<\/p>\n

Burdick led the team with five total bases, highlighted by her second-inning home run.
\nSamantha Blachly<\/a> provided a clutch two-out RBI in the first inning.
\nNoriega reached base after being hit by a pitch and crossed the plate for one of the Spartans’ four runs.
\nDefensive Work: The Spartans’ defense saw active play from Arden Walsh<\/a> and\u00a0McDowell, who combined for four putouts and four assists.<\/p>\n

UP NEXT: The Spartans close out the Stanford Invitational from Stanford Softball Stadium on Sunday against Cal at 10:00 a.m. as they look for their third win in a row over the Golden Bears.<\/p>\n
