{"id":170598,"date":"2026-02-09T17:11:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T17:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/170598\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T17:11:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T17:11:07","slug":"university-professors-praise-shen-yuns-educational-value","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/170598\/","title":{"rendered":"University Professors Praise Shen Yun\u2019s Educational Value"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LONG BEACH, Calif.\u2014University professors attending <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shenyunperformingarts.org\/news\/view\/article\/e\/Z5J_ksm-nYE\/nine-things-to-know-about-shen-yun.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-hover-class\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shen Yun Performing Arts<\/a> in Long Beach praised the production for its vivid portrayal of traditional Chinese culture and its strong educational significance.<\/p>\n<p>On the evening of Feb. 6, Shen Yun arrived for its first performance on its 2026 world tour in Long Beach, California, at the Terrace Theater of the Long Beach Convention &amp; Entertainment Center. After watching the performance, Veronica Acosta, a professor at the Department of Health Science, California State University, Long Beach, said she thoroughly enjoyed it, praising Shen Yun for its beautiful presentation of traditional culture and its strong educational value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved the show\u2014absolutely loved it,\u201d Ms. Acosta said, expressing her heartfelt admiration for the performance. \u201cThe costumes, the colors, the stories, the music\u2014everything about it was captivating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Acosta noted that the performance vividly portrayed scenes from everyday life and was impressed by the performers\u2019 expressiveness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show depicted many different aspects of life and daily activities,\u201d she said. \u201cWhat especially touched me was the acting, and the way the performance transitioned from one act to another\u2014it was really beautifully done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through classical Chinese dance, New York-based Shen Yun celebrates the beauty and value of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shenyunperformingarts.org\/explore\/category\/traditional-chinese-culture\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-hover-class\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">traditional Chinese culture<\/a> from \u201cChina before communism,\u201d while revealing the true nature of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Since the regime came to power in 1949, it has systematically distorted and destroyed thousands of years of traditional Chinese culture through political campaigns such as the Cultural Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>As a university professor, Ms. Acosta praised Shen Yun\u2019s dedication to reviving an endangered traditional culture, saying that this mission carries strong educational significance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really need to go back to basics,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ve gone so far from our cultural roots for such a long time, and we need to bring them back\u2014because that\u2019s part of who we are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seeing many children in the audience, Ms. Acosta said she hoped they would be inspired by the performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn today\u2019s society, we really need the arts and culture,\u201d she said. \u201cAnything we can do to support that\u2014and to have our kids participate in it, or at least be inspired by it\u2014is so important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Acosta said she sees that the traditional values and spiritual depth conveyed in Shen Yun can have a profoundly positive impact on society today. Reflecting on what inspired her the most, she said the performance emphasized kindness, spiritual purpose, and moral grounding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt inspired me to be kind, to have a spiritual purpose,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd most of all, we need a basic foundation\u2014[it\u2019s] character building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also attending the performance with Ms. Acosta was Tony Sinay, a professor at the Department of Public Health, California State University. Mr. Sinay said he has long admired Chinese culture and has a strong interest in classical Chinese dance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s very good for Americans,\u201d he said. \u201cIt allows them to really get a feel for the traditions of Chinese culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sinay added that Chinese culture continues to preserve its traditional values, despite China\u2019s modern challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel that Chinese culture still holds on to its old values and traditions,\u201d he said. \u201cOf course, there\u2019s some erosion, like everywhere else, but the roots are still there.
