Alameda restaurant closure<\/p>\n

Coffee Cultures <\/p>\n

02.06.26: Coffee Cultures on Park Street in Alameda\u00a0closed Jan. 31<\/a>. However, it still offers a mobile coffee cart for special events. Coffee Cultures used to have several locations in San Francisco, but Alameda was \u201chome,\u201d where owner Jason Michael Paul was raised. Ones Cafe & Bakery, based in Castro Valley, will open a location in this spot; the opening date hasn\u2019t been announced yet.\u00a0Coffee Cultures<\/a>, 1926 Park St., Alameda.<\/p>\n

Albany restaurant closure<\/p>\n

Sumo Sushi<\/p>\n

01.29.26: Another tipster let us know that Albany\u2019s Sumo Sushi has shuttered. The restaurant was known for serving classics like sushi and sashimi, but its bento boxes and miso soup were a particular fan favorite. Sumo Sushi was located at 977 San Pablo Ave. (at Buchanan St.) in Albany.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Berkeley restaurant closures<\/p>\n

Delah Coffee<\/p>\n

01.29.26: Delah Coffee, a local Yemeni coffee chain, has closed its Berkeley caf\u00e9 near the university, per a Nosh tipster. Delah Coffee\u2019s other Bay Area locations are in San Francisco, Oakland and Dublin, serving specialty drinks like the Delah Qahwah (light roast with ginger and cardamom), Yemeni frappes and fruit smoothies. Delah Coffee was located at 1807 Euclid Ave. in Berkeley.<\/p>\n

Peet\u2019s<\/p>\n

01.29.26: Peet\u2019s Coffee is closed several of its Bay Area caf\u00e9s at the end of this month, including some in Berkeley and San Francisco, on the heels of an $18 billion buyout by Keurig Dr Pepper. The\u00a0San Francisco Chronicle\u00a0reported the coffee chain was closing 30 of its shops in the Bay, but the company has been vague about which ones exactly. So far, we know the location at Dwight and Telegraph (2501 Telegraph Ave.) in Berkeley will close. Locations in Oakland and Alameda seem to remain largely unaffected; the shops on Alameda\u2019s Park St. and in Oakland\u2019s Piedmont, Lakeshore and Fruitvale districts plan to stay open. Peet\u2019s originated in Berkeley in 1966, but has not been under local ownership since 2012, when it was sold to JAB Holding Company.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lafayette restaurant closure<\/p>\n

Taco Bell \u2014 Lafayette<\/p>\n

01.14.26: After 60 years of serving beefy five-layer burritos and crunchwrap supremes, the Lafayette Taco Bell has shuttered. It was one of the last remaining Mission-style Taco Bells in the Bay Area, the chain\u2019s old signature architectural style. Taco Bell was located at 3501 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Oakland restaurant closures<\/p>\n

Fist of Flour Pizza Co.<\/p>\n

01.14.26: Fist of Flour, the casual pizzeria serving wood-fired slices out of its Laurel District shop, announced its permanent closure on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>. In the post, owner James Whitehead wrote, \u201cThings have been beyond hard the last couple years, and I found a buyer for this place and I am selling off the lease and the contents of this amazing shell of a space for practically pennies. Lesson learned. I am extremely proud of occupying this space for the last twelve years and serving the Laurel District and surrounding neighborhoods. It\u2019s emotional to say the least.\u201d The restaurant will be open for dinner, cash only, Jan. 15 and Jan. 16, before shuttering for good.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This won\u2019t be the last of Fist of Flour, however. Whitehead plans to continue making pizzas and still operates a catering business. Fist of Flour was located at 4166 MacArthur Ave. (at Maybelle Ave.) in Oakland.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s All Good Bakery<\/p>\n

01.26.26: More than one tipster let us know that the longstanding, family-owned bakery It\u2019s All Good has shuttered. Signs on the door and in the window read: \u201cWe are permanently closed. Thank you for 30 years of support!\u201d All of the windows have been covered with brown paper.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The bakery was founded by Kim Cloud in 1996, operating for three decades, and was located at the site of The Black Panthers\u2019 first Oakland headquarters. Cloud proudly displayed Black Panther memorabilia in the bakery.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2022, a\u00a0project to redevelop the building<\/a>\u00a0into apartments and commercial space was announced. According to city of Oakland records, in April 2025 the Planning and Zoning Division emailed the project\u2019s architectural firm, Gunkel Architecture, to say the project application was incomplete and a focused environmental impact report was required, including more information for the Historic Resource Evaluation regarding the property\u2019s significance in establishment of the Black Panther Party.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s All Good was known for serving an array of decadent treats, including sweet potato and pecan pies, peach cobblers, snickerdoodles and banana pudding. It\u2019s All Good was located at 5622 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. (at Aileen st.) in Oakland.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gai Noi<\/p>\n

01.29.26: Gai Noi, a casual spot for Thai street food staples located in the mixed-use building at 19th Street and Broadway that\u00a0caught fire on Jan. 19<\/a>, is listed as temporarily closed under business\u2019 Google and Yelp listings, but a Nosh tipster let us know a sign on the door reads: \u201cThe store is permanently closed.\u201d Crispy tofu, fish cakes, curry puffs, veggie bowls, curries and noodles were menu highlights. Gai Noi was at 435 19th St. (at Broadway) in Oakland.<\/p>\n

The Lodge<\/p>\n

02.06.26: The Lodge, on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, closed its doors on Jan. 31. The beloved bar was not only a bar, but served as a venue for many chef pop-ups, including Lovely\u2019s owner Mikey Yoon as well as Navajo tacos from Rocky Yazzie. However, as the\u00a0San Francisco Chronicle reports<\/a>, new owners, Chris Cashin of Boathouse in Alameda and Kris Gordon, have already taken over the neighborhood bar and are planning to reopen it soon with minimal changes, including opening for lunch.\u00a0\u00a0The Lodge<\/a>, 3758 Piedmont Ave., Oakland.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Uzen<\/p>\n

02.06.26: Readers told us Uzen, a Japanese restaurant on College Avenue in Oakland\u2019s Rockridge neighborhood, has closed. A note on the window states that they closed Jan. 31. The restaurant had been in Rockridge for 34 years and focused on sushi as well as meals such as bentos and noodles.\u00a0Uzen<\/a>, 5415 College Ave., Oakland.<\/p>\n
