{"id":171003,"date":"2026-02-09T23:22:48","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T23:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/171003\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T23:22:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T23:22:48","slug":"irish-new-year-sacramento-state-marching-band-visited-dublin-to-ring-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/171003\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish New Year: Sacramento State marching band visited Dublin to ring in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At an invitation from the lord mayor of Dublin, Ireland, Sacramento State\u2019s marching band participated in the country\u2019s three-day New Year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n<p>SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014 To help ring in 2026, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc10.com\/section\/sacramento\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Sacramento\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csus.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">State<\/a>\u2019s marching band performed last month in the New Year\u2019s Festival in Dublin, Ireland, marking the first time the group has traveled internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Current band members and alumni traveled to Dublin from Dec. 27, 2025-Jan. 2 at the invitation of the Irish city\u2019s mayor to perform in the three-day celebration, which included performances in Dublin Castle and a parade, according to Kaleihiehie Cablay, director of athletic bands.<\/p>\n<p>The band also traveled to Galway, Ireland, about 115 miles west of Dublin, during their trip, Cablay said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Via a letter sent circa September 2024, Dublin\u2019s lord mayor at the time invited the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csus.edu\/college\/arts-letters\/music\/marching-band.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Sacramento State\u2019s marching band<\/a> to participate in the festival. An excerpt of that letter, shared last week with ABC10, read:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As Lord Mayor of Dublin, it gives me great pleasure to extend this warm invitation to you to participate in the New Year&#8217;s Festival in Dublin. Now in its fourteenth year, New Year\u2019s Festival Dublin is Ireland\u2019s biggest New Year Celebration. The festival includes spectacular events taking place over 3 days. Bands will have the opportunity to march on New Year\u2019s Eve before thousands as part of the NYF Dublin parade.
