SACRAMENTO, Calif. \u2014 A 40-year-old man being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail has died following a medical emergency, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Sheriff\u2019s officials said deputies discovered the inmate suffering from what appeared to be a seizure around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Sacramento Fire Department personnel responded to the jail and took the man to a local hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
The inmate remained hospitalized for several days. On the evening of Sunday, Feb. 8, he underwent surgery but was pronounced deceased later that night, officials said.<\/p>\n
The Sacramento County Sheriff\u2019s Office stated it will conduct a full inmate death investigation in accordance with department policy and state law.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Sacramento County Coroner\u2019s Office will determine the official cause of death and release the inmate\u2019s identity following its standard protocols.<\/p>\n
