(FOX26) \u2014 The Fresno Police Department arrested seven drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Those charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license. <\/p>\n<p>[RELATED] <a href=\"https:\/\/kmph.com\/news\/crime\/driver-arrested-for-dui-after-rollover-crash-in-madera-crash-was-at-e-yosemite-ave-and-d-st-arrested-for-dui-and-booked-into-the-madera-county-jail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Driver arrested for DUI after rollover crash in Madera<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The police department is planning another DUI enforcement operation on Feb. 21st, and a series of DUI enforcement patrols and checkpoints throughout the year to ensure roadway safety.<\/p>\n<p>The Fresno Police Department also conducted a distracted driving enforcement operation on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>112 drivers were cited for hands-free cell phone violations during the operation.<\/p>\n<p>California has enforced distracted driving laws since 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Under current law, drivers may not hold a phone or other electronic device while driving. This includes making calls, texting, or using apps.<\/p>\n<p>Using a handheld cell phone behind the wheel can result in a fine. <\/p>\n<p>A second violation within 36 months of a prior conviction for the same offense will also add a point to the driver\u2019s record.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
