One day when McCloud is out on a case, he sits at his hero&#8217;s desk and pretends to be him when a ravishing dame (frequent Hope co-star Dorothy Lamour) needs help finding her missing husband.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">That&#8217;s the premise of &#8220;My Favorite Brunette&#8221; (1947), a spoof of the film noir genre made at the height of the movement. It even co-stars Peter Lorre, known for playing noir heavies in films such as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/entertainment\/article\/the-maltese-falcon-humphrey-bogart-and-john-21184312.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Maltese Falcon;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">The Maltese Falcon<\/a>,&#8221; which serves as this comedy&#8217;s jumping-off point.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;My Favorite Brunette&#8221; plays Thursday and Friday, Feb. 19-20, at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/entertainment\/movies-tv\/article\/as-bay-area-movie-theaters-continue-closing-the-21184445.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Stanford Theatre;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Stanford Theatre<\/a> in Palo Alto on a double feature with &#8220;Road to Morocco&#8221; (1942), one of seven &#8220;Road&#8221; films starring Hope, Lamour and Bing Crosby.
