\u201cThe preliminary investigation indicates that the bicyclist was travelling southbound on Redondo Avenue when she entered the intersection with East 2nd Street [while] a 2025 gray Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound on East 2nd Street,\u201d Long Beach police explained in a media release. \u201cThe Hyundai Sonata entered the intersection with Redondo Avenue at a high rate of speed\u2026did not stop at the stop sign and collided into the bicyclist.\u201d<\/p>\n

(Citizen App)<\/p>\n The driver of the Sonata then fled the scene without stopping to\u00a0render\u00a0aid and identify themselves as required by law. They were last seen traveling west on East 2nd\u00a0Street from Redondo Avenue.<\/p>\n L.A. street blocked after man climbs electrical pole, refuses to come down <\/a><\/p>\n Authorities did not\u00a0immediately\u00a0identify\u00a0the woman by name; however, loved ones who spoke with KTLA\u00a0identified\u00a0her as Lori Ann Carreon.<\/p>\n One man\u00a0who knew Carreon, Bruce Hartzell, said she was struck as she was biking home from work and that the force of the collision sent her flying 60 feet through the air, causing her to land on a parked car.\u00a0The bystander referenced by police was a nurse who saw the incident and administered CPR, Hartzell told KTLA in an email.<\/p>\n He lamented on the fact that there have already been multiple fatal traffic crashes this year in Long Beach and expressed concern that 2nd\u00a0Street itself is becoming \u201ca raceway.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c2nd Street itself has become a raceway with drivers leaving the local bars and speeding up it or down Redondo Avenue,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u00a0have\u00a0been multiple accidents.\u201d<\/p>\n Lori Ann Carreon as seen in an undated photo.<\/p>\n Loved ones and neighbors gathered at the site of the crash Tuesday morning and erected a memorial in Carreon\u2019s honor. She was an occupational therapist who dedicated her life to helping children and adults, so their lives are impacted as well.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis entire neighborhood is heartbroken,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n Another friend, Melinda Duran, said biking was one of Carreon\u2019s favorite hobbies.<\/p>\n A memorial set up at the site of a hit-and-run that left a woman dead in Long Beach.
