If you are looking for love, Thee Stork Club and Black Sheep have planned events to help you find a special someone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But if you\u2019re not feeling Valentine\u2019s, there are plenty of other events to check out this weekend, from the Black Liberation walking tour to the Trash Falcons exhibit displaying all the quirky items the group has collected over the past five years during their countless Lake Merritt cleanups.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We want to know what kind of events you want to hear about. Hit those marks and you\u2019ll enjoy $2 cocktails until midnight. But don\u2019t worry if you\u2019re not a tall glass of water; everyone is welcome to join. The vibes include live music by DJs Thowwow and Mousetwat, plus a dating game starting at 9 p.m. for a chance to win a paid Valentine\u2019s Day dinner at Sobre Mesa.<br \/> Wednesday, Feb. 11, 8 p.m., free, Thee Stork Club, 2330 Telegraph Ave.<\/p>\n<p>Screening of \u2018The Alabama Solution\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortheppl.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">For the People<\/a>, an organization that identifies incarcerated people who can be safely released to reunite with their families, is hosting a free screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary \u201cThe Alabama Solution.\u201d The film, which uses footage recorded by incarcerated men, exposes a \u201cdeadly cover-up inside Alabama\u2019s prison system.\u201d The screening will be followed by a Q&amp;A with leaders in criminal justice reform.<br \/> Wednesday, Feb. 11, 5 p.m., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/the-alabama-solution-a-special-film-screening-conversation-tickets-1980488837426\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RSVP online<\/a>, Grand Lake Theater, 3200 Grand Ave.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Opening gala for the Trash Falcons exhibit \u2018What We Sow\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trashfalcons.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trash Falcons<\/a>, a volunteer-run group that has been helping to <a href=\"https:\/\/oaklandside.org\/2022\/11\/17\/oakland-trash-falcons-garbage-clean-up\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">keep Lake Merritt clean<\/a> for over five years, has put together an unusual exhibit at the Junior Center of Art and Science made up of the interesting discarded items they\u2019ve found over the years. In the exhibit, titled \u201cWhat We Sow,\u201d the Trash Falcons transform the debris of urban life into works that are at once whimsical, provocative, and profoundly beautiful. Credit: Amir Aziz for The Oaklandside<br \/>\nBlack Liberation Walking Tour<\/p>\n<p>Since 2021, third-generation West Oakland resident and <a href=\"https:\/\/oaklandside.org\/2021\/05\/18\/oaklands-black-liberation-walking-tour-will-use-oral-history-to-root-a-community-in-place\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">community advocate David Peters<\/a> has dedicated himself to telling the stories of the residents who called the historic Hoover-Foster neighborhood home and documenting their contributions to the political and cultural tapestry of The Town. He\u2019s pulled all that material into a walking tour that Conde Nast Traveler called one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cntraveler.com\/story\/us-black-history-tours-from-california-to-charleston\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cstandout Black history tours in the U.S.\u201d<\/a> The tour received a 2025 Partners in Preservation Award from the Oakland Heritage Alliance.<br \/> Saturday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/214-black-liberation-walking-tour-tickets-1981234630112?aff=ebdsoporgprofile\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sliding scale tickets<\/a>, starting point will be emailed once you RSVP<\/p>\n<p>Sexy Singles Valentine\u2019s Party<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are almost sold out for this Valentine\u2019s Day mixer for Oakland area singles who are tired of the apps and ready to meet someone in real life.
