ELMONT, NEW YORK \u2013 John Klingberg was able to remain on the ice for the entirety of the San Jose Sharks\u2019 morning skate on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
While he won\u2019t play against the New York Islanders<\/a>, the Sharks defenseman took a step in the right direction for a return from a lower-body injury. Klingberg tried to skate during practice on Sunday, but got off the ice.<\/p>\n Klingberg, who left #SJSharks<\/a> practice early, was supposed to go through all of practice. Warsofsky will get an update later today. We will find out what is going on tomorrow after morning skate\u2014 Max Miller (@Real_Max_Miller) October 20, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n San Jose Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said he hasn\u2019t gotten an official update on the defenseman\u2019s status. <\/p>\n Before leaving California, the Sharks placed Shakir Mukhamadullin<\/a> on injured reserve and called up Luca Cagnoni. Like Klingberg, Cagnoni won\u2019t play on Tuesday. <\/p>\n Advertisement. Warsofsky said it all depends on Klingberg\u2019s health.<\/p>\n \u201cI think more so if Klingy is gonna be out longer, we need someone for the power play,\u201d Warsofsky said of Cagnoni. \u201cWe\u2019ll focus on today and then worry about that tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n There is an argument to be made that Cagnoni is the San Jose Sharks\u2019 best puck-moving defenseman. Yes, he\u2019s not the biggest, but he\u2019s got the skating and hockey IQ to be an effective player.<\/p>\n Cagnoni was caught off guard by the Sharks\u2019 recall, but he\u2019s excited to be with the team.<\/p>\n Advertisement. I showed what I could do, so I was pretty happy with that,\u201d Cagnoni told SHD. \u201cIt\u2019s nice to be back up here with the guys.\u201d<\/p>\n Cagnoni made his NHL Debut<\/a> last season and appeared in six games. Cagnoni, understandably, wasn\u2019t happy about not making the San Jose Sharks\u2019 opening night roster<\/a>, but he took it in stride.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a positive. Obviously, [it] sucks getting sent down, but you get positives out of it,\u201d Cagnoni said. \u201cI thought, just go to the AHL and just work as hard as I can. Still improve the little details and really soak it in, because it\u2019s still really good hockey down there. [There is] a lot to learn, so just make the best of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Cagnoni skated with Timothy Liljegren<\/a> at practice on Sunday and again at the morning skate on Monday.
