{"id":173436,"date":"2026-02-11T13:19:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T13:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/173436\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T13:19:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T13:19:09","slug":"long-branch-awards-12-4m-contract-for-new-pier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/173436\/","title":{"rendered":"Long Branch awards $12.4M contract for new pier"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/play-icon.png\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/play-icon.png\"\/> Listen to this article<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.longbranch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Long Branch City Council<\/a> awarded a construction contract Feb. 3 to begin building a new <a href=\"https:\/\/njbiz.com\/tag\/long-branch\/\" class=\"st_tag internal_tag \" rel=\"tag nofollow noopener\" title=\"Posts tagged with Long Branch\" target=\"_blank\">Long Branch<\/a> Pier.\u00a0It marks a major step toward restoring one of the city\u2019s most iconic waterfront features, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.app.com\/picture-gallery\/news\/history\/2024\/02\/28\/history-of-the-long-branch-pier-and-its-fiery-end\/72777460007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">which a fire destroyed in 1987<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>The city awarded the contract for the $12.4 million project to <a href=\"https:\/\/jtcleary.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Newark-based JT Cleary<\/a>, a premier marine contractor. Officials say they expect construction to begin within 60 days. The project is scheduled for completion in 12 to 18 months.\n<\/p>\n<p>Key plan details include:<\/p>\n<p>Will extend 550 feet from the existing boardwalk and measure 20 feet wide<br \/>\nFeatures decorative entrance archway<br \/>\nIncludes a T-shaped end spanning 80 feet as well as a 40-foot-wide octagonal seating area at the midpoint<br \/>\nDesigned as New Jersey\u2019s first fully accessible fishing and pedestrian pier. The structure will feature: accessible railings; seating; lighting; water access for anglers; and utility tables<br \/>\nFeatures also include benches, a central seating area, vending machines with fishing supplies and a small refreshment kiosk<\/p>\n<p>City officials said the project honors Long Branch\u2019s historic resort-era <a href=\"https:\/\/njbiz.com\/tag\/piers\/\" class=\"st_tag internal_tag \" rel=\"tag nofollow noopener\" title=\"Posts tagged with piers\" target=\"_blank\">piers<\/a>. Once lining the shoreline and serving as promenades and entertainment hubs, the aforementioned 1987 fire destroyed the city\u2019s last pier.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2018An iconic symbol\u2019<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-540728\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"new Long Branch Pier\" width=\"350\" height=\"525\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Long-Branch-pier-rendering-1.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-540728\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Long-Branch-pier-rendering-1.jpg\" alt=\"new Long Branch Pier\" width=\"350\" height=\"525\"  \/>A large decorative archway will adorn the entrance of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/njbiz.com\/tag\/long-branch-pier\/\" class=\"st_tag internal_tag \" rel=\"tag nofollow noopener\" title=\"Posts tagged with Long Branch Pier\" target=\"_blank\">Long Branch Pier<\/a>. \u2013 PROVIDED BY CITY OF LONG BRANCH<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor many residents and visitors alike, the pier is an iconic symbol of historic Long Branch,\u201d said Mayor John Pallone. \u201cThe new pier will include historic design elements that give a nod to the original structure, while incorporating modern standards for safety, durability, and maximum resiliency.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe intend for this pier to serve as a statewide model for accessibility. In 2019, <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/new-jersey\/longbranch\/long-branch-opens-citys-first-fully-accessible-beach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Long Branch opened New Jersey\u2019s first fully accessible beach<\/a>, setting a standard that other communities have followed. This project reaffirms our commitment\u2014and the state\u2019s commitment\u2014to inclusion and equal access for individuals with disabilities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Intended solely for recreation and fishing, the pier will not feature amusements or boat docking. The pier will rise near <a href=\"https:\/\/njbiz.com\/tag\/laird-street-beach\/\" class=\"st_tag internal_tag \" rel=\"tag nofollow noopener\" title=\"Posts tagged with Laird Street Beach\" target=\"_blank\">Laird Street Beach<\/a>.
