{"id":174010,"date":"2026-02-11T21:39:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T21:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/174010\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T21:39:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T21:39:07","slug":"medical-campus-is-eyed-for-san-jose-sites-once-planned-as-elite-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/174010\/","title":{"rendered":"Medical campus is eyed for San Jose sites once planned as elite school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN JOSE \u2014 Office buildings in San Jose that once were eyed as a hub for a private school are now being pitched as a medical campus, according to marketing materials circulated by commercial real estate firm HealthMed Realty.<\/p>\n<p>At 525 Race St. and 550 Meridian Ave., Avenues The World School bought <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2019\/03\/27\/top-tier-private-school-buys-big-san-jose-office-building-new-campus-tech-google-apple-adobe-facebook-amazon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">two buildings<\/a> in separate transactions that gave it control of the properties.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Office buildings at 550 Meridian Avenue (left) and 570 Meridian Avenue (right), seen in November 2024.(Google Maps)\" width=\"1003\" data- src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/SJM-L-SJMEDCAMPUS-01_1856c9.jpg\" \/>Office buildings at 550 Meridian Avenue (left) and 570 Meridian Avenue (right), seen in November 2024.\u00a0(Google Maps)<\/p>\n<p>An affiliate of the school bought the 550 Meridian building in 2019 for $27.1 million and the 525 Race building in 2022 for $33 million, Santa Clara County real estate documents show.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the second purchase, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2022\/04\/08\/high-end-new-york-school-buy-site-near-san-jose-campus-real-estate\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Avenues The World School officials had filed plans<\/a> for a campus that envisioned the reuse of the existing office buildings and the construction of new buildings as well as a sports field.<\/p>\n<p>The school never broke ground. Avenues, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.avenues.org\/about\/campuses\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to its website<\/a> has a campus in New York City and Brazil, did not respond to a request for comment or context about the situation.<\/p>\n<p>A third building at 570 Meridian also is included in the pitch, according to the HealthMed Realty marketing materials circulated by founding partner Eric Rafia.
