A 40-year-old man suspected of causing a fatal hit-and-run collision in Long Beach was taken into custody Wednesday after turning himself in, police said.<\/p>\n
According to the Long Beach Police Department, Christopher Bryant was booked on Wednesday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, hit-and-run causing death or great bodily injury, and reckless driving. He was being held on $50,000 bail.<\/p>\n
Officers responded shortly before 4:50 p.m. Saturday to reports of a hit-and-run collision involving a bicyclist near Redondo Avenue and East Second Street.<\/p>\n
A bystander rendered medical aid to the woman upon the arrival of officers. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded to the location and took the victim to a hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries.<\/p>\n
Detectives determined after a preliminary investigation that the woman was riding a bicycle southbound on Redondo when a 2025 gray Hyundai Sonata traveling westbound on East Second Street entered the intersection at a high rate of speed, failed to yield at a stop sign, and struck her, police said.<\/p>\n
The Sonata fled the scene and was last seen traveling westbound on East Second Street from Redondo Avenue. Police said speed was a contributing factor leading to the fatal collision.<\/p>\n
The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of relatives.<\/p>\n
