More significantly, and more in tune with the 21st century, the still <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/bob-iger\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bob-iger\" data-tag=\"bob-iger\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bob Iger<\/a>-run Disney has 90 days under its legally binding pact with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/california\/\" id=\"auto-tag_california\" data-tag=\"california\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California<\/a> to cease having such sticky fingers when it comes to the data of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/disney-2\/\" id=\"auto-tag_disney-2\" data-tag=\"disney-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Disney+<\/a> customers and users of the company\u2019s other streaming platforms.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cDefendants shall stop SELLING and SHARING the CONSUMER\u2019S PERSONAL INFORMATION and shall stop conducting CROSS-CONTEXT BEHAVIORAL ADVERTISING for that CONSUMER,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/disney-california-settlement.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">says caps-heavy settlement agreement<\/a> signed off on today by LA Superior Court Judge Daniel Crawley. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tWith opt-out options made accessible and crystal, in case there was any gray areas of what the state Department of Justice wants and what Disney has said they will do, the 10-page settlement lays out of the heart of the deal as clear and bright as nighttime theme park fireworks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cDEFENDANTS shall provide CLEAR AND CONSPICUOUS notice to CONSUMERS in connection with DISNEY SERVICES that DEFENDANTS conduct CROSS CONTEXT BEHAVIORAL ADVERTISING using PERSONAL INFORMATION obtained from THIRD PARTIES,\u201d the final judgement and permanent injunction states. \u201cSuch notice shall be in a manner that provides CONSUMERS a meaningful understanding of the information being collected, the categories of sources from which the PERSONAL INFORMATION is collected, and that directs CONSUMERS to DEFENDANTS\u2019 NOTICE OF RIGHT TO OPT-OUT OF SALE\/SHARING.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tMade public the same day as<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/disney-california-suit-feb-11.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> a complaint fro the state against Disney for injunction, civil penalties and other equitable relief was filed in LASC<\/a>, the low-payout but far-ranging settlement comes after a two-year probe by Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/rob-bonta\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rob-bonta\" data-tag=\"rob-bonta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rob Bonta<\/a> into violations of the California Consumer <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/privacy\/\" id=\"auto-tag_privacy\" data-tag=\"privacy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Privacy<\/a> Act\u00a0by a wide range of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/streamers\/\" id=\"auto-tag_streamers\" data-tag=\"streamers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">streamers<\/a>. So far, Disney and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/sling-tv\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sling-tv\" data-tag=\"sling-tv\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sling TV<\/a> are the only subjects to strike a deal with California, which is estimated to have America\u2019s nation\u2019s toughest data privacy law.\u00a0 Yet they are unlikely to be the last as \u201cother streaming services are currently under investigation,\u201d a source in Sacramento tells Deadline. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNot saying to check out the fine print of those <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/netflix\/\" id=\"auto-tag_netflix\" data-tag=\"netflix\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Netflix<\/a>, Paramount+ and <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/hbo-max\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hbo-max\" data-tag=\"hbo-max\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HBO Max<\/a> user agreements. On the other hand, with that streaming trio and others, not saying you shouldn\u2019t expect said agreements and what they allow the streamers to snag, to likely change in the not-too-distant future, if you know what I mean?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn a statement from a company spokesperson Wednesday to Deadline, Disney didn\u2019t get into the weeds on its settlement with the state, but they didn\u2019t exactly avoid it either<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cAs an industry leader in privacy protection, Disney continues to invest significant resources to set the standard for responsible and transparent data practices across our streaming services,\u201d the company said. \u201cAs technology and media continue to evolve, protecting the privacy and preserving the experience of Californians and fans everywhere remains a longstanding priority for Disney.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAttorney General Bonta, who was viewed as a frontrunner to replace the term-limited <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/gavin-newsom\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gavin-newsom\" data-tag=\"gavin-newsom\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gavin Newsom<\/a> before he took himself out of the running earlier this year, was pretty blunt in his aims and gains today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cConsumers shouldn\u2019t have to go to infinity and beyond to assert their privacy rights,\u201d the reelection seeking AG stated. \u201cToday, my office secured the largest settlement to date under the CCPA over Disney\u2019s failure to stop selling and sharing the data of consumers that explicitly asked it to.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tBonata added: \u201cCalifornia\u2019s nation-leading privacy law is clear: A consumer\u2019s opt-out right applies wherever and however a business sells data \u2014 businesses can\u2019t force people to go device-by-device or service-by-service. In California,\u00a0asking a business to stop selling your data should not be complicated or cumbersome.
