A 22-year-old man from Santiago, Chile was sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison for enticing a 14-year-old Southern California girl to engage in illicit\u00a0sexual activity,\u00a0authorities announced earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Daniel Andr\u00e9s Aravena Oliva met the unidentified juvenile female online, federal investigators said.<\/p>\n

Between December 2023 and May 2024,\u00a0Aravena\u00a0used various internet platforms to communicate with the teen, including Zoom,\u00a0FaceTime\u00a0and\u00a0the virtual-reality gaming platform Roblox, and knowingly encouraged her to engage in illegal sexual activity with him, including sending him sexually explicit photos of herself.<\/p>\n

\u201cAravena\u2019s written messages to the victim often were sexual in nature,\u201d prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office in Los Angeles said<\/a>. \u201cThrough those messages, Aravena persuaded the victim to have sex with him and to produce child sexual abuse material depicting herself for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

The teen victim\u2019s family discovered the communication between her and the Chilean national and blocked the girl\u2019s ability to interact with him. They then reported the\u00a0incident to law enforcement.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old was arrested in August 2024 at the Los Angeles International Airport, where he had flown to meet and have sex with the victim, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

When he was taken into custody, investigators found approximately 50 sexually explicit images of the girl in the\u00a0\u201cdeleted photos\u201d\u00a0portion\u00a0of his iPhone.<\/p>\n

Aravena, who has been in custody since his arrest, pleaded guilty in March 2025 to one count of enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity and one count of possession of child pornography. On Feb. 2, he was sentenced to\u00a0135 months\u00a0in federal prison and ordered to pay\u00a0restitution\u00a0of $3,000.<\/p>\n

Homeland Security Investigations, along with the Glendora Police\u00a0Department,\u00a0investigated the matter.<\/p>\n
