(FOX40.COM) \u2014 All westbound lanes on U.S. Highway 50 will be closed overnight for a sign installation, state officials announced.<\/p>\n
A contractor will install an overhead sign across the highway\u2019s entire westbound side in the early morning of Thursday, Jan. 12, the California Department of Transportation said Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Work will begin Wednesday night at 11 p.m. and continue until 5 a.m. on westbound Highway 50 between 26th and 15th Streets.<\/p>\n
Between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., Highway 50 will be fully closed on the westbound side at 26th Street. Caltrans encouraged drivers to use W Street as an alternate route.<\/p>\n
A contractor will install an overhead sign over Highway 50 between 18th and 19th Streets, the department said in a news release, along with additional signs along the freeway. Because of safety concerns, crews will perform traffic breaks during the work and will close the connector between northbound State Route 99 and westbound US 50.<\/p>\n
\u201cCaltrans reminds drivers to use alternate routes, expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones and pay close attention to advance warning signs,\u201d the department said. \u201cMotorists are also encouraged to plan and allow extra travel time.\u201d<\/p>\n
The ongoing work is part of the Fix50 project, a $511.1 million effort to rehabilitate the highway, adding lanes between the US 50\/Interstate 5 interchange and the US 50\/Watt Avenue interchange.<\/p>\n
