HECTOR AMEZCUA                                                                            hamezcua@sacbee.com                                                                                        When will thunderstorms reach Northern California?<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Weather Service, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">\u201cactive weather\u201d is set to return<\/a> to Northern California, starting Monday, Feb. 9.<\/p>\n<p>As the current weather system moves in, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">breezy northern winds<\/a> will develop, with gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph in the Central Valley by Monday afternoon, the weather agency said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>These winds should help reduce widespread fog, the agency said, but some patchy dense fog could still form in some areas within the Valley.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">areas will be dry Monday<\/a>, with mostly cloudy skies, cooler, more seasonable temperatures,\u201d the National Weather Service said. \u201cThe next system approaches from the eastern Pacific Monday afternoon, with some rain and snow showers developing ahead over the Sierra.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters said the system is moving a bit slower than previously expected.<\/p>\n<p>The heaviest rainfall and mountain snow was likely Tuesday, Feb. 10, through Wednesday, Feb. 11, when the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">storm will be at its strongest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How much rain and snow will fall?<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">Snow levels are expected<\/a> to start between 5,000 and 6,000 feet early Tuesday, Feb. 10, then drop to around 4,500 feet by Wednesday, meaning more mountain areas could see accumulating snow, the National Weather Service said.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasts show 4 to 10 inches of snow will fall above 5,000 feet, 10 to 18 inches above 6,000 feet and up to 2 feet on the highest peaks.<\/p>\n<p>According to the weather service, drivers should \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">expect delays and chain controls<\/a> on mountain freeways\u201d including Interstate 80 and Highway 50.<\/p>\n<p>                                                                                                                                                                                                              <img class=\"responsive-image\" width=\"1140\" height=\"739\"  alt=\"A customer walk in the rain at the Folsom Premium Outlets on Monday, Dec. 22, 2025.\" title=\"SAC_5598_Weather_HA_251222.JPG\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>                                                                                                                A customer walk in the rain at the Folsom Premium Outlets on Monday, Dec. 22, 2025.                                                                                            HECTOR AMEZCUA                                                                            hamezcua@sacbee.com                                                                                        <\/p>\n<p>In the Central Valley, rainfall totals are expected to range from about a half-inch to 1 inch, with higher amounts possible during thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p>While widespread flooding is not expected, wet and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">slippery roads could make travel<\/a> hazardous, the weather agency said.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">15% to 20% chance of thunderstorms<\/a> from Tuesday through Wednesday in the southern Sacramento Valley, northern San Joaquin Valley and nearby foothills.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s in the weather forecast for Sacramento?<\/p>\n<p>Skies were expected to be \u201cmostly cloudy\u201d in Sacramento on Monday, according to the National Weather Service\u2019s latest forecast.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=38.5769&amp;lon=-121.495\">Rain will likely return Tuesday<\/a>, when there\u2019s an 80% chance of showers. The high temperature will be near 58 degrees, and the low temperature will be around 49 degrees. Winds will be light at about 6 mph.<\/p>\n<p>Rain remains likely Wednesday, with a 70% chance of showers. Winds will increase slightly to 7 to 9 mph. HECTOR AMEZCUA                                                                            hamezcua@sacbee.com                                                                                        Will it snow near Lake Tahoe?<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Weather Service, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/product.php?site=STO&amp;issuedby=STO&amp;product=AFD&amp;format=ci&amp;version=1&amp;glossary=1#:~:text=Current%20GOES%2DWest%20visible%20satellite,to%20VFR%20due%20to%20mist.\">snow levels in Northern California<\/a> are expected to remain above 5,000 feet.<\/p>\n<p>The latest forecasts show <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=38.9416&amp;lon=-119.9772\">snowfall returning to South Lake Tahoe<\/a> beginning Monday, with wintry conditions expected to continue through Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>When will Modesto see rain?<\/p>\n<p>The latest seven-day <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lon=-121.004&amp;lat=37.642\">weather forecast for Modesto<\/a> shows rain starting Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>There was an 80% chance of showers Tuesday, with a high near 61 and a low around 51. Winds will sweep at around 3 to 7 mph.<\/p>\n<p>Rain will continue into Wednesday, with a 60% chance of showers. Fresno?<\/p>\n<p>Merced is expected to see <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=37.307&amp;lon=-120.482\">wet weather this week<\/a>, with rain likely on Tuesday and into Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The high will be 61 on Tuesday, while the low will be around 49.<\/p>\n<p>There is an 80% chance of rain Tuesday, with winds around 5 to 10 mph and gusts up to 15 mph. Thunderstorms are possible Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday has a 60% chance of rain, with a high near 57 and a low around 42 degrees. Winds will remain light, from 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 15 mph.<\/p>\n<p>Fresno will see similar conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s high will be near 64 degrees, with a low around 53. There is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"Follow nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?lat=36.7317&amp;lon=-119.7859\">a 90% chance of rain<\/a>, and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Rain is likely to continue Wednesday, with a 70% chance of precipitation.
