The programs being targeted are the African American Student Development Office, Black Resource Center, Latinx Student Resource Center, African American Initiative Scholarship and Lloyd A. Edwards Scholarship.

The EPP alleges these programs are only open to certain students based on race, either explicitly or through “strong racial signaling,” and thereby violate Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

Campus spokesperson Dan Mogulof said UC Berkeley has no comment on the complaint.

Timothy R. The complaint alleged the program favored Latine students on the basis of national origin and identity. The Department of Education’s OCR dismissed the case as resolved after UC Berkeley opened the program to students of all backgrounds.

“My hopes are that (UC Berkeley administration) will stand firmly in support and solidarity with all of the groups that are being targeted,” Teran said. “I hope that the administration really takes a stance and shows what its true values are.”

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights opened an inquiry yesterday evening into a complaint against…

[34
83629,83626,83634,83627,83637,76678,83632,83624,83640,83639,83628,83625,83630,143,145,144,83638,83633,83631,83623,83635,30647,83636
post-175387","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-oakland","tag-african-american-initiative-scholarship","tag-african-american-student-development-office","tag-asuc-senator-sara-teran","tag-black-resource-center","tag-california-community-college-chancellors-office","tag-civil-rights-complaint","tag-equal-protection-clause-of-the-14th-amendment","tag-equal-protection-project","tag-haas-school-of-business-thrive-fellows-program","tag-latine","tag-latinx-student-resource-center","tag-legal-insurrection-foundation","tag-lloyd-a-edwards-scholarship","tag-oakland","tag-oakland-headlines","tag-oakland-news","tag-puente-project","tag-timothy-r-snowball","tag-title-vi-of-the-civil-rights-act-of-1964","tag-u-s-department-of-educations-office-for-civil-rights","tag-u-s-department-of-justices-ocr","tag-uc-office-of-the-president","tag-undocumented-student-program
["GET
