SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KGO) — San Francisco held its annual CityBeat breakfast on Tuesday and revealed the results of the CityBeat poll.<\/p>\n

The annual poll surveyed 500 San Francisco residents, asking them how they feel about important topics, such as safety, affordability and quality of life. It’s used by business and city leaders to identify trends and shape policy.<\/p>\n

Overall, the results were positive this year, with Mayor Daniel Lurie’s second year in office.<\/p>\n

“We finally got our city moving in the right direction again, but now it’s time to put our foot on the accelerator,” Lurie said.<\/p>\n

Lurie spoke about optimism in the city, following encouraging results from the poll.<\/p>\n

“Overall optimism and perceptions of quality of life have improved significantly, and 64% of San Franciscans now say that San Francisco is on the right track, compared to just 22% a year ago.”<\/p>\n

The poll shows 75% say the city is making progress on the downtown economy, a 27% increase from last year.<\/p>\n

But it also reveals what San Francisco is struggling to achieve. Sixty-one percent of voters say housing availability has gotten worse and 78% believe controlling the cost of living has gotten worse.<\/p>\n

“San Francisco remains too expensive for families,” Lurie said. “People feel the pressure on housing, on the cost of living, and they want solutions that will move the needle.”<\/p>\n

Lurie said one of those solutions is funding Muni, as the poll reveals 91% say quality Muni and BART service is essential to San Francisco’s future. Sixty-nine percent would support funding transit even if it requires new revenue.<\/p>\n

San Francisco Chamber of Commerce President Rodney Fong announced the chamber’s endorsement for both the regional and local transit funding measures.<\/p>\n

“This matters more than ever when people want a city that, at the end of the day, works for all of us. Transit is a big part of that,” Fong said.<\/p>\n

While overall poll results show confidence that the city is returning, residents feel leadership needs to continue delivering results.<\/p>\n

“That means staying focused on the fundamentals,” Lurie said. “Public safety, clean streets, housing people can afford, transit people can rely on and a city government that works for everyday San Franciscans, not just the insiders.”<\/p>\n
