1.\u00a0Ocean water quality advisory issued for LA County beaches following rain<\/a><\/p>\n

Due to current rainfall, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health advised beach users on Wednesday to avoid all water contact \u2014 especially near discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers due to potentially higher bacteria levels in these areas. This includes any runoff that may flow onto or pond on the beach sand.<\/p>\n

Rain advisories remain in effect for 72 hours after the rainfall ends. The current advisory will be in effect until at least Saturday at noon and may be extended depending on further rainfall.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Grazing goats returning to Glendale for wildfire mitigation<\/a><\/p>\n

Grazing goats are returning Wednesday to Glendale as part of the city’s year-round wildfire mitigation strategy.<\/p>\n

Beginning Wednesday, a herd contracted through California Grazing will spend approximately one week removing 20 acres of dry brush on the hillsides of Verdugo Park, including the slopes leading toward homes on Las Flores Drive.<\/p>\n

The early deployment comes in response to the exceptionally heavy rainfall the region received over the past several months, which has accelerated vegetation growth across the wildland-urban interface. The city anticipates bringing in additional herds later this summer to stay ahead of rapidly growing fuels.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Dodgers bring back Evan Phillips on a $6.5M deal as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery<\/a><\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Dodgers are bringing back reliever Evan Phillips on a $6.5 million, one-year deal as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers didn’t initially tender him a deal because he was still recovering, which made him a free agent. Phillips made only seven appearances last season before surgery in late May. He was a key arm for the Dodgers from 2022 through 2024. He posted a 2.21 ERA and 44 saves in that span.<\/p>\n

In 2023, Phillips became the closer. To clear a roster spot, the Dodgers designated catcher Ben Rortvedt for assignment.<\/p>\n

Palisades delegation seeks state action on recovery, insurance<\/a><\/p>\n

Rosanne Landay said she would never have thought she would be in Sacramento lobbying lawmakers over insurance problems facing condo, apartment, townhome and mobile homeowners.<\/p>\n

After losing her condo in the Palisades Fire, she said that more than a year later, many survivors \u2014 including her \u2014 are still struggling with rebuilding and insurance issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one of the first fires where, like I said, 40% of the housing stock is\u00a0non single-family\u00a0homes,\u201d Landay said. \u201cSo, when we speak with legislators and their staff, it\u2019s not so much that they\u2019ve been ignoring us. It\u2019s that this has not occurred before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Landay joined a delegation of Palisades survivors along with Mayor Bass and Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park, urging reforms to hold insurers accountable, extend mortgage relief and maintain state support.<\/p>\n
