San Francisco schools chief Maria Su was blasted for shedding \u201ccrocodile tears\u201d while discussing school closures because of the teachers\u2019 strike<\/a> \u2014 as it was revealed she rakes in $385,000 a year while sending her kids to private school.<\/p>\n

Su came under intense scrutiny this week as Bay Area public school teachers hit the picket lines<\/a> over pay increases and better benefits. The strike ended Friday.<\/p>\n

The schools chief \u2014 who earns five times more than a 10-year teacher with tenure \u2014 choked up Feb. 6 while discussing the impending strike and its impact on students \u201cwith the greatest needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

But she also dodged questions about making significantly more than her teachers \u2014 and also refused to answer a question about her own kids attending private school, KTVU reported.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a mom, I have kids, I know the importance of education,\u201d Su replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know the importance of our teachers having fair and competitive and livable wages,\u201d she said. \u201cIt is expensive to be here in the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Su sat on her pile of cash while teachers stood on the San Francisco picket line<\/a> for nearly a week before they landed a 5% raise for teachers over two years on Friday. The teachers also got their healthcare demands approved, receiving fully funded healthcare contributions for dependents.<\/p>\n

Teachers didn\u2019t have much sympathy for Su during the process of the strike \u2014 one picket sign on a wet day Tuesday said, according to the San Francisco Standard<\/a>, \u201cIs this rain or Maria Su\u2019s crocodile tears pretending she cares about our kids?\u201d<\/p>\n

An eighth-grade science teacher in the area, Jennifer Erskine-Ogden, held the sign. <\/p>\n

\u201cGive me a break,\u201d she told the San Francisco Standard about the tears. \u201cIt\u2019s just fake.\u201d<\/p>\n

Su wasn\u2019t the only San Francisco pol virtue-signaling about public education while sending her own kids to private schools, which can cost upward of $60,000 per year.<\/p>\n
