The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Scott Lu and Chaplain Stevie Stennis provided spiritual counsel. Some of the 7th floor patient care unit team even stepped in as bridesmaids, adding warmth and camaraderie to the occasion. The couple\u2019s love and determination shone brightly, reminding us all of the power of human connection during challenging times.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>By Clayton Warren, Vitals contributor<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Last November 3, 2025, the halls of the 7th floor Patient Care Unit at Sutter\u2019s Alta Bates Summit Campus in Oakland were filled with joy and celebration as Wyatt Dressel and his longtime partner Nancy exchanged vows in a heartfelt wedding ceremony. Wyatt, recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and having completed his first cycle of chemotherapy, shared with the care team his and Nancy\u2019s long-standing wish to marry. The team rallied together to make this dream a reality.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48727\" class=\"wp-image-48727\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Wedding-PCU7-11.3.25-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Wyatt and Nancy get married.\" width=\"199\" height=\"149\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-48727\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wyatt and Nancy celebrate their nuptials!<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cMy experience as a patient at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center has been first class and I really appreciate the staff members who went the extra mile to help make this wedding possible,\u201d said Wyatt. \u201cNancy and I were really impressed with the entire team and how they pulled this event together for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Bringing Joy to Patients and their Families<br \/>When members of a patient\u2019s health care team come together to plan such celebrations for patients, it shows how much they care about their patients as individuals and see them as people, beyond their diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Wyatt\u2019s journey began at Sutter Roseville Emergency Department, where tests confirmed his AML diagnosis\u2014a type of blood cancer that affects bone marrow and disrupts healthy blood cell production. He was then referred to Alta Bates Summit\u2019s Comprehensive Cancer Center for specialized care. Amid treatment and uncertainty, Wyatt and Nancy chose to celebrate life and love, creating a moment that will be cherished by everyone who witnessed it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48729\" class=\"wp-image-48729\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Wyatt-and-Dr.-K-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Patient thanks his physician. \" width=\"158\" height=\"183\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-48729\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wyatt credits Dr. Oleg Krijanovski, oncologist for his guidance and compassion.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cOrlea Francisco, R.N. and Angelica Alquillera, R.N. went above and beyond to help care for me and fast tracked my recovery so that I could be discharged and go home sooner, said Wyatt. \u201cI was also very fortunate to be treated by Dr. Oleg Krijanovski, oncologist who oversaw my cancer diagnosis and gave me clear guidance when I needed it. Orlea, Angelica and Dr. Krijanovski\u2019s expertise and compassion made all the difference in my journey at ABSMC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This beautiful event and patient outcome reflects the heart of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center: compassionate care that goes beyond medicine.
