The San Francisco Rapid Response Network<\/a>, a coalition of immigrant rights\u2019 groups in the city that works to verify purported immigration arrests, put out a post<\/a> on Friday afternoon saying that an \u201celderly nanny\u201d had been arrested in the Diamond Heights neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Mayor Daniel Lurie wrote in a statement that his office was \u201caware of the immigration enforcement action in Diamond Heights earlier today\u201d and that San Francisco police officers were \u201cnot involved\u201d in accordance with the city\u2019s sanctuary policies.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am in touch with the Rapid Response Network and community organizations to ensure communities continue to receive accurate information,\u201d Lurie said. \u201cWe are not aware of any other immigration enforcement action in the city today. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain committed to upholding the values and laws of our city.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Rapid Response Network wrote<\/a> that on Friday morning, \u201cour hotline confirmed the arrest of a San Francisco resident in the Diamond Heights neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe detained person, an elderly nanny on her way to work, was followed by multiple unmarked vehicles. After she parked and stepped out of her car, the vehicles blocked the driveway and agents exited, stating they were looking for a person in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mission Local could not independent verify the arrest.<\/p>\n

The agents \u201cdid not present a warrant,\u201d according to the network\u2019s account, and did not have identification or visible markings indicating which agency they belonged to. The woman was \u201chandcuffed and taken into custody,\u201d it wrote.<\/p>\n

The Rapid Response executive director Laura Valdez told Mission Local over text message that the \u201cattorney of the day,\u201d a rotating pro-bono lawyer from the Bar Association of San Francisco who works with immigrants and asylum-seekers in the city, was dispatched to locate the woman.<\/p>\n

Valdez declined an interview and did not share any more information.<\/p>\n

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not immediately respond to requests for comment. ICE enforcement<\/a> in San Francisco has centered on the immigration courthouses<\/a> downtown where asylum-seekers<\/a> were, until recently<\/a>, routinely arrested<\/a> after court hearings and check-ins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A broad daylight arrest on a city street would be a marked departure from ICE\u2019s past practice in San Francisco.<\/p>\n
